It has taken over 2 years of weekends but our deck refastening project is almost over, and I as I order the last bit of TDS caulking that we will need, felt it fitting to review this fine product. We used the Fein Multimaster with the teak blade to remove the old caulk and redefine the seams. Blue tape was used for masking. We haven't yet had a single air bubble but admittedly are not skimping on application. The professional caulk gun sure made this job easier, too. It is not at all evident the places where I left an unfinished seam on Sunday and returned to finish it on Friday.

Comments about Teakdecking Systems Teakdecking Systems - Caulk:
Used to seal 1/4" x 1/4" grooves between shiplapped boards. Application was straightforward. A steady hand and slow pace prevents bubbling. I went too fast in several places and ended up having to recaulk some holes. Sands well, looks great and is very durable.

Comments about Teakdecking Systems Teakdecking Systems - Caulk:
My old caulk looked fine overall but was failing in a few specific areas. Rather than redo the entire deck, I decided to replace only the bad areas. I removed the old caulk with a linoleum knife and chisel and sanded the groove. Then I applied TDS, which was surprisingly easy. I masked the teak with tape, filled the groove, and then wiped away the excess with a putty knife. The result looks great and has held up well so far (about a year). The TDS seemed to bond well with the old caulk, making the seams between old and new caulk imperceptable and, well, seamless. I think judicious use of TDS in specific areas could add years to the useful life of a caulking job.

Comments about Teakdecking Systems Teakdecking Systems - Caulk:
Applied 800 feet of Teak Decking Systems caulk over the past year. Being a single part product sold by the tube (or many tubes) TDS allowed me to space out the job doing one 30-foot seam per day. I'm an old geezer so had to spare my arthritic back. I could not have survived this job doiong it with 2-part bulk products. TDS applies easily with NO BUBBLES (ok 3-4 bubbles over 800 feet of seam). Leakage through bubbles on original 2-part, professionally applied, caulking was the reason for seam replacement. TDS is tough when cured and stands slightly proud of deck when cured, thus augmenting excellent non-skid properties of teak deck. TDS personnel provided excellent customer support through my learning curve. Use a linoleum knife (not craftsman knife)to cut old caulk - curved blade is the trick. Use curved laminate hand trimmer with carbide V-point flattened to scrape sides of groove - carbide lasts forever. Use TDS's bent screw driver tool to scrape bottom of groove. Use 3-inch wide metal putty knife with 80-grit "stick and sand" paper to sand groove edges - you can manoeuver putty knife easily to exactly where sanding is required. Happy caulking!

I had to redo the deck on my boat and apply 1200' of caulking. It went on easy and sanded well. It has bonded to the sides and is staying flexible. This stuff is incredible! I was very concerned with applying the caulking after all the work I did to prepare the deck and now I am resting comfortable that it is working so well.
