Comments about Jamestown Distributors Colored Air Dry Gelcoats:

Good quality Gelcoat. The 'cream' color matched well from gallon to gallon. The set up was predictable and worked well. At mid 70s temperature it was hardish to the touch in 30-40 mins and I wet sanded the next day. I used a sprayable body filler HVLP gun with a 1.5mm tip. The gun holds 16 oz which matched what I could spray before the gelling started. I would just flush the gun with some acetone and wipe it out between batches. I mixed the entire gallon for a few mins with a bent rod in a cordless drill. For each 16 oz batch of gelcoat I mixed in 1.5 oz styrene and 1 oz acetone then mixed for a min. I added in 10-11cc of MEKP depending on the temp and mixed for a solid min. I sprayed about 1 gallon white and 2 gallons of the cream and it worked well. No issues spraying over west system epoxy, filled or unfilled or polyester filler. A few holes were filled by the previous owner with Marine tex and this reacted with the gelcoat preventing it from hardening. A 17 foot bare Boston Whaler Montauk took a gallon of white for the ouside hull and center console. The inside took almost 2 gallons. I used 400 grit wet sandpaper to knock down the orange peel then 600 then the 3m imperial rubbing compound then wax. It only took a few hours for the hull, mirror finish, and about 4 hours for the interior, shiny finish. The gallon cans are filled with about 3 quarts so plan for this.
I sprayed in my back woods because the styrene and acetone stinks to high heaven and it is partly shady.

Comments about Jamestown Distributors Colored Air Dry Gelcoats:

This colored gelcoat gives a nice-looking, durable finish with a consistent color throughout. It is tricky to get the hardener proportions right, though - and no instructions are printed on the packaging. Note that I received mine in cans, not plastic bottles as shown on the website. This makes pouring the resin a bit trickier. Overall, a good product and a nice way to get a consistent color throughout the resin.

Comments about Jamestown Distributors Colored Air Dry Gelcoats:

I used the Navy Blue gel coat to coat plywood. The mixing instructions can be found on-line, but they should include them with the product. A simple two-part system and easy to mix. The only drawback is that the painting time is very short once the hardener is added to the gel coat. After 15 minutes the gel coat begins to harden and whatever is left in the bucket can't be used.
