Collars should be 3/8" thick, then one loop will suffice. What they send isn't long enough to loop my oar 3 times. Not exactly "traditional" using copper nails, better to hole punch the leather and lace it up. Not to mention.. nails leave holes in your oars and influx of water will rot em out. My opinion.... waste of money. Ended up buying from another supplier.

it would have been nice if they told us we had to order tacks! could have got leather free! doesn't say anything about needing tacks. product coming back!!!! wuld not recommend!!!
Comments about Perko Oar Leathers:
I am pleased with the quality of leathers. Application not as easy as I expected, but I was able to do an okay job; more directions would be helpful. However, one box of 25 tacks is not enough--get two because they are extremely difficult to find.

I would never purchase this again. I would choose a much cheaper manmade material instead. They look classic but boy did I feel ripped off when it came. I am sure a local fabric shop/boot shop could get me scrap pieces of leather for free.

The salty way to quiet your oars and save the varnish. Do yourself a favor and get the copper tacks too. Don't use steel tacks especially if you are on salt water.
