No, I would not recommend this to a friend
I bought a boat with these steps on each side of the cockpit. The previous owner put them in to help him step up onto the walkaround section easier. The problem with these is that they rattle like crazy when you're cruising and can get really annoying. The steps tend to fall down as they get older so I was constantly banging my shins on them too. They're also too small to be useful (IMO) unless you have boat shoes on.
