The plastic can will probably work better than the old metal can which tended to rust out (big mess) when stored. The paint seems to mix better than before so it applies better than previously.

A true Multi-season ablative, I have six seasons with this paint on lake Erie, and every year after only a power wash at haul out the bottom looks fresh painted. When it is time to apply the product it cleans easy with water, has low odor, and does a great job of protecting the hull. I wish I had discovered this paint 20 years ago when I bought my first boat.

Great bottom paint. Have used it both in FL and Cape Cod with eccellent results. Not only would recommend to friends but have several friends and family using it already and they feel as I do; excellent stuff. Many boaters don't know that all albative paints are not "multi season", this is the real stuff.

The can says to use their Tie Coat primer on bare wood. This primer needs to be thinned a lot with their special highly volatile thinner that dries out of the batch way to fast. This then needs sanding. A lot of work and the paint still didn't stick well in a few places. The Petit rep at the Maine Boatbuilders show wished that he had talked to me first. "Just prime wood with some heavily water thined Hydracoat." The paint stuck well to old paint and most areas and came out clean after a year in Buzzards Bay. This was on a 50 year old mahogany planked lobster boat.

We used this paint to redo a bottom with paint of unknown type/age. Wet sanded the bottom first, wiped down, and then applied 2 coats. Great covergae, easy clean up and paint looks great. Boat is rack stored and this paint reccomended for trailer use. This spring we only need to retouch at water line where got a ittle aggressive with the hull cleaner.

Comments about Pettit Z-Spar Pettit Hydrocoat Antifouling Bottom Paint:

I was skeptical about a waterbased bottom paint having used solvent based ones forever. It held up surprisingly well. Good coverage and cleanup a breeze. Worked very well on my old wood boat.

I have never purchased from Jamestown before and my wife suggested I try it as the cost of this paint was so high locally. We live in the Florida Keys and a quart was[$]+ while I paid [$] for a gallon. Excellent buy, excellent product and you can be sure I will return to this site when I next need something for my boat.

Used Hydrocoat for the first time this year. Application and especially clean-up were much easier than other products I have used. At Fall haul-out there was some slime but no barnacles or other hard growth.

Over the past decades I have used/applied several brands and types of bottom paint. I find water-based Hydrocoat to be easiest to apply, and equally effective to the other solvent based paints. In my area, the Great Lakes, Hydrocoat works fine for me.

Hard to apply evenly.
Leaves too much over spray, best to apply with roller but the wet edge dries very fast.

Comments about Pettit Z-Spar Pettit Hydrocoat Antifouling Bottom Paint:

Easy to use and clean up. Works well on 2 coat 2 year haul out cycle in Mid Chesapeake Bay on sail - no barnacles!

No Barnacles on I/O runabout on 1 year 1 coat cycle.

Great price.

Some soft growth on both.
