I bought Kemps Permagild to restore a South facing aluminum house plaque which had weathered and started to pit in reaction to the masonry wall. An attractive dark green gloss for the background is easy enough to locate in any local hardware store, but all of the "gold" paints seem to be "craft grade" only, doomed to quickly fail in the brutal exposure. Permagild requires a bit of patience, as a dark background shows through. It took four coats to fully cover, with a day's drying time between coats. (Had to apply light coats to keep neat appearance on raised characters and border!) After six months outdoors our house plaque still loooks nicer than it did brand new! The original anodized finish had nowhere near the depth & contrast of our re-finish. I even skipped the clearcoat. Looking forward to using Permagild on some cheap looking steel entry door hinges to class up my home's rear entry. Probably I'll clearcoat hinges for better "brass" appearance.

The person who complained that it wasn't as shiny "like gold" like they expected it would be should have read the other earlier comment that said "put a coat of varnish on it and no one can tell it's not the real thing!"
I've used Kemp Permagild for decades, and it's the best. It helps to us an expensive fine quality brush. For a truly incredible faux gold leaf finish I put a very thin coat of Gold Leaf Antiquing Glaze on top of it; I let it dry very well, I don't wipe it off, and I seal it in place with a coat of varnish (tung oil is the easiest - just put it on gently so you don't wipe off the antiquing glaze).

This paint was used for a pipe organ to give the pipes a real brass look. This product is superior and is worth every penny. Apply clear gloss or laquer over it and you will fool everyone!

Expected a much more shiny finish. More like the gold leaf look that was advertised.

Used for an outdoor sign for a Historical Society Flowering Park. Location in the Northeast so weather is certainly an issue.
