Semco teak sealer waterproofs and protects teak. This durable protectant maintains a protective coating through winter, eliminating the need for deep cleaning. Semco teak wood sealant goes on easy, dries quickly, and provides a non-slip finish. Keeping exposed teak looking its best is challenging. Varnishes aren't ideal as the natural oils in this wood can cause blistering or peeling. Most common teak protectants are solvent and linseed oil based, and oxidize over time. The oxidization of surface oils causes teak wood to appear weathered or gray. Semco teak sealer contains UV protection and a mildewcide to eliminate these problems. It can also be used to seal other woods such as cedar, oak, and pine, though you will need to varnish over it on those woods to achieve a glossy finish.

The sealer went on easy but its the first time I have used it so longevity is not a response I can give but is why I used this product we will see after a year or two.

One late spring(after pollin) application a year on my teak deck after a light wash with soft scrub brush. Gold color dries to an orange tone. I have mixed natural and gold, but prefer 100% natural. Have not needed sanding for 3 years now. Probably next year. Always apply on sunny dry day, 2 coats and make sure first coat dries fully.
Good stuff.

Comments about Semco Semco Teak Sealer:

The frustrating expensive search for product to protect the teak deck and exterior trim work on my restored 42' Trojan has ended. Following extensive restoration, I didn't want to seal teak with epoxy or varnish (unnatural look and too hot to walk upon comfortably) but didn't want the "natural" grey look either. After sanding, applied three coats of Semco gold. While admittedly subjective, I LOVED the look. Lasted year easily, refreshed with one more coat. Excellent protection for deck. Speeds cleaning. Never looks "oily" or "greasy" - does not darken or bleach out. Works well on small trim pieces as well.

Comments about Semco Semco Teak Sealer:

The teak sealer is great. I use it every few years when my outdoor teak furniture is looking tired and moldy. Despite being warned against it, I washed the furniture first with a power washer, then applied the Semco product and it looks great.

Restored the "new' look to our outdoor teak furniture. Light sanding then apply. Bought a gallon only took a quart. More for the future, perhaps the redwood furniture next. Good stuff............

Great product. We used to it to seal our outdoors teak furniture when the color started to fade after a few months after purchase. [...]The furniture looks like new again!

Spring re-commissioning:
My toe rails still look good after a year. I need to clean with a mild detergent (recommended by the manufacturer), then re-coat - mainly because I have some graying in a few thin edge spots. Suggest you use a small rag (with a glove) to overcome the thin spots. A foam brush is recommended, but I found the rag works better, with more thorough application & less mess.
Highly recommend the Semco products.

After using this product, which was recommend by a professional yacht captain, I wouldn't use anything else. The results are great and lasts far longer than any finish I've used. Anyone want some half-empty bottles of teak oil?

Semco stinks!
By Teak LoverVerified Reviewer from Carlsbad, CA on 11/9/2009
Pros:
Even Paint Distribution
Cons:
Powerful toxic odor

Comments about Semco Semco Teak Sealer:

I am very happy with this product and how easy it was to apply. Results were great. However, the minute the delivery box was opened I could smell a horrible pungent odor. I had to hire a painter to stain my benches because the odor was so strong. It had a really strong acrid smell. My neighbors complained! Otherwise, happy.

Comments about Semco Semco Teak Sealer:

The natural color product had been used on a new deck and on a restored deck with equal success. The old deck was sanded and Semco applied in two back to back coats. The two decks are very similar in appearance. This is a very easy product to apply with either a foam or bristle brush. Excess wipes off easily to give a very even and consistent color tone to the sealed teak.

Comments about Semco Semco Teak Sealer:

I used this produnt to restore a table and chair set of high-quality teak outdoor furniture. The Semco sealer was easy to apply using a large brush. The freshly sealed wood was darker in color, as one would expect, but the natural coloration returned after a few days.

Comments about Semco Semco Teak Sealer:

I apply two, back to back coats each spring and the teak is protected for the rest of the year. That includes winter since the boat is kept in the water all year. My 1985 era teak looks new and draws a lot of compliments wherever I go.

Comments about Semco Semco Teak Sealer:

I have 12 year old teak and recently cleaned with a two part cleaner and covered using the SEMCO product. I was looking for the newer teak look so I mixed 1 part natural with 4 parts gold. The product goes on with an orange color but softens as it dries. I was very pleased with cover and final color. Beware this does soften the black caulk between boards. The product dries to a dull finish. I applied one coat of the SEMCO clear coat over the sealer and ended up with a slight sheen to the finish very similar to freshly oiled teak. It has only been one month and the finish has held up great.

Comments about Semco Semco Teak Sealer:

I've been using Semco for 3 seasons. It's very easy to apply and 2 - 3 coats look good and last all season. Coats dry in minutes which is great! The past couple of years I used the Gold Tone, which is an Orangish color but looks nice. This year I tried mixing 50-50 gold and natural to tone it down. Looks more natural, but doesnt cover as well. Probably go back to gold next year.

Old Teak renewed
By IanVerified Reviewer from Bristol on 5/16/2008
Pros:
Even Paint Distribution, Pigmented semi transpare, Requires less prep
Best Uses:
Older teak that is grey, Teak that is exposed more
Describe Yourself:
Do-It-Yourself
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Semco Semco Teak Sealer:

The semco- semi transparent worked great on older teak that is a grab rail, and lines the gunwall of my my 23 ft slickcraft. I have been cleaning, prepping and oiling it continuously each year. This year I tried sealing the teak vs oiling, 2 coats should last a season. The tint is light orange / natural wood, I mixed the pigmnented with clear for a softer finish.
