We used this on a seriously sanded fir deck rail cap around our decks on our home. We sanded the rails extensively to get them flat and smooth. This reduces the amount of materials needed to coat the wood. Sanding makes the wood take up less product for complete coating. The appearance is outstanding, and the UV protection is something we hope will keep this material from degrading too rapidly, as the rails are exposed to sun most of the day on sunny days, and are fully exposed to rain all year. Will try to update this review after winter to advise of condition of rails. The overall appearance is very shiny and golden with an undercoating of 3 coats of the Cetol Marine satin or Marine Light. Just follow their instructions to the letter, and you will get great results.
