Brand: KiwiGrip

KiwiGrip is a durable, non-skid deck coating developed by New Zealand yachtsmen specifically for use on boats. Most other traction or anti slip coatings are simply repackaged industrial products. This hard acrylic polymer provides a durable, homogeneous, elastic surface. It spreads quickly and easily. By using one of KiwiGrip's proprietary rollers (sold separately) and by varying application technique, the texture can be adjusted from fine to aggressive for the right amount of traction.

Comments about KiwiGrip KiwiGrip Non-Skid Deck Coating:

I've used this for several years and it does the job of non-skid. It is also easy to re-apply (cockpit of a 35' racing boat, heavy traffic) Simply clean with brush and soap. Tape off. Slather some more on.

Comments about KiwiGrip KiwiGrip Non-Skid Deck Coating:

The trowel helps even out the application
Remove the tape as soon as you finish.
Do not touch it to see if its dry - re-rolling after partially dry does not go well.
The roller skids if you are not careful - use full length strokes and try not to reverse in mid stroke. Roller cleans easily with water for reuse.
I sanded the old non skid with a six inch rotary wire brush on a drill and cleaned the area with acetone before application. I painted the areas around the non skid before applying the non skid because trimming paint afterward did not look good.

like the results but, i tried to apply some of the paint in the direct sunlight, bad idea! the paint film dried very fast in heat and direct sunlight the time is reduced even more. didn't feel like i had any choice in the matter but once dfied i just used a rasp plane to remove the material and apply a new coast to the area that dried to fast.

Comments about KiwiGrip KiwiGrip Non-Skid Deck Coating:

product dries fast when temps are above 80 - removing tape when product has begun to dry will pull up edges- better to let dry and clean up tape with a razor if it doesn't come off

Great product.
Apply it thickly before rolling
Be sure to mask the area and remove the masking soon- if the paint has skinned it will peel up with tape removal

Comments about KiwiGrip KiwiGrip Non-Skid Deck Coating:

The finished result depends on proper preparation.
Best to remove all sailboat hardware and wood trim.
Clean and sand all non-skid areas to be refinished.
Wipe down with acetone after sanding to remove all grit and dirt.
Mask all areas and protect non-application areas with "painter's tape".
(Masking is absolutely necessary, regardless of what the advertising says).
Apply KiwiGrip to one section at a time, regardless of size of the section.
After applying, use the supplied roller to create depth of texture desired.
Remove the tape from section just completed while application is still wet.
Caution: DO NOT let application dry before removing the painter's tape.

Comments about KiwiGrip KiwiGrip Non-Skid Deck Coating:

I have applied nonskid tapes, textured glue downs, many applications of paint w/grit added, teak decking and gel coat repairs. This is by far the simplest to apply and yet provides the best finish and surface of all. I unintentionally applied it thinner than recommended and thus have a second gallon left over. The best applicator before using the special roller would probably be a 1/4 inch notched trowel to slather it on and working smaller areas allows one worker to apply, roll, remove tape (use scissors) and start again.
