I used pettit easypoxy topside paint on my composite aircraft. I sprayed the thinned paint with a normal spraygun at 25psi. The fiberglass had been previously primed with a valspar epoxy hi-build primer and sanded smooth.
The paint layed down nicely and came out great. It does take some practice. Too much paint and it will not dry, too little and you dont get the shine you want. However, this paint wet sands great to a beautiful finish so you can shine up any tough areas. Cleans up easy. This is an excellent product. My plane came out great. I added a stripe with easypoxy red.
Here is the aircraft with the stripe
Paint gives a great finish

I have used EasyPoxy on FRP and Wood over paint and varnish, with light sanding. Covers well, easy to apply and lasts a long time. Great Product!

I have been using this on fiberglass over a valspar highbuild epoxy primer on my homebuilt aircraft. Sprays on nice with airgun at 30psi and leaves a beautiful surface. You have to get just the right amount on. Not enough and surface doesnt wet out and shine, too much and you can get a run or it wont dry completely. This stuff is amazing. Peolpe think I clear coated it.

Easiest topside paint I've ever used. Use a tight cell foam roller and there is no need for tipping. Great stuff for the beginner or experienced builder.

Comments about Pettit Z-Spar Pettit EasyPoxy Topside Paint:
I applied this product according to the specs provided but do not feel it hardens enough to be used as a topside paint on a BOAT. Next time I will simply use a 2 part enamel that I know will harden and then get a proper Gel-Coat on top. You will never get the durability of a new boat. I expected this paint to be more durable than car paint means its going to be on water (flexible and hard)but it really seems about as weak as the Latex on my walls. Basically.... use 2-Part, you know it will harden. This stuff will peel right off the primer, even when applied thinly...... Weak..

I used this to finish a fiberglass pool slide that was very weathered. I did not use primer. This paint had excellent coverage and leveling. Such a nice smooth finish. It took about 7-8 hours to set up, but it was 90 degrees and humid. Follow mfr. tips on recoating time. I gave it three coats. [...]Have already recommended this paint to someone to refinish their boat and will recommend Jamestown Distributors for good price and [...].

This is some great, absolutely great topside paint. The coverage is fantastic, cleanup is a breeze and talk about tough, this it the stuff. I used it to cover the inner side of the hard canopy on my GlasPly and the results were way better than expected. I will definitely use this again when the need arises. Thank you Jamestown and Pettit for helping me create a masterpiece.

We are rebuilding a 1970's pontoon which needed some help! We picked EasyPoxy Burgundy for a top side color!
EasyPoxy mixed well and spread over the painted aluminum well. Its a very thick paint which means that you dont need to lay the paint on thich! Just worked a small bit in at a time. 2 Coats is all you need and the gloss finish is fantastic!
Our boat will be the sharpest 1970's era out on the Minnesota lakes!

Comments about Pettit Z-Spar Pettit EasyPoxy Topside Paint:
Both this product and Interlux Brightsides are similar single stage polyurethane enamels and both claim spray application as one of the 4 options to apply. However, I don't find much in the way of instructions or references for spraying. So I'll add my 2 cents. Interlux instructs no more than 10% of it's thinner (xylene) and Pettit, 15-20% (xylene/mineral spirits). Temp & humidity factor in and having used both products here in St. Croix, Virgin Islands, 85 deg., 80% hum., I got the best results with 5% thinner in both. You must run trial tests for your conditions. I use a LVLP spray gun with a 1.4mm tip to avoid runs and it has exellent dispersment. I was striving to get that glassy mirror like finish (like Awl-Grip) but the best I could achieve was a sprayed-on look. The polyurethane does not like to atomize finely nor flow smoothly when it contacts the surface applied to. I sprays easily and evenly, covers very well and leaves an attractive, bright, glossy finish but not glassy.

Be carefull following the directions for spraying. I used thinner when you really do not need it. It was my fault I should have test sprayed before thinning but I had never used this paint before so I followed the directions. It turned out nice after I thickened it up.

Comments about Pettit Z-Spar Pettit EasyPoxy Topside Paint:
I've initially tried Easypoxy as the cost of "real" automotive paint crept over $50/gal (remember when?!) and Easypoxy about half that. I use it on small parts exposed to weather. I used to buy quarts from my local BoatUS and West Marine stores and was disappointed when it became no longer available as a stocked item. I like it because it is more durable (slower to fade and get chalky and more resistant to pealing off) than hardware-store paints like Rustoleum. (I still use the Rustoleum white primer, though.) For my driveway spray operations, Easypoxy flows out nicely with minimum orangepeel. I do have to arrange pulling parts inside the garage for overnight drying and to minimize dust entrapment.
These days, I tend to use a lot of spraying thinner, as my HVLP sprayer prefers very low viscosity. I have used both "full size" and "touch up" guns and they clean up fine with mineral spirit-type thinners.

Comments about Pettit Z-Spar Pettit EasyPoxy Topside Paint:
Like any painting process, most of the job is in the prep. Good, meticulous sanding, followed by shop-vac, compressor blow, thinner wipe and then a tack cloth wipe.
I've had best results in using Scotch Brite pads for sanding in between coats over the recommended, 220 gt. sandpaper. (Less scratching).
Don't try more than one coat/day. Use the best respirator you can buy. Cover your face and eyes.
This is a great product for Beginner and Professional alike, and looks like it's been sprayed-on when it dries.
I apply it w/ West System Roll cover, tip-off the bubbles w/ a brush.

Comments about Pettit Z-Spar Pettit EasyPoxy Topside Paint:
Use as directed! I used a foam roller and a good brush to blend the paint on the hull. I am going to try spraying the top. The hull has been dry for about two weeks now but seems to feel soft (fingernail test) when in the sun for awhile. I have not subjected my boat to the water as of yet because it is a winter project for next season. All in all this paint brought back a 27 year old faded fiberglass boat to life! Good Stuff!

I use Petit EazyPoxy as a topside paint for an old wooden Sunfish. Over a portion of the deck repaired with okume mahogany plywood, I used sealer and undercoater before the topside paint. One can't detect the repaired area.

Comments about Pettit Z-Spar Pettit EasyPoxy Topside Paint:
Used Electric Blue for hull on my 15' home made boat. Boat is not moored and didn't require a bottom paint. Used with Penetrol for the first coat, very compatible. This paint is very durable and holds up well. Still looks great after 3 seasons with no repaint and only 3 initial coats. My favorite thing about this paint is that it sands very easily between coats and did not gunk up the sand paper like other Oil paints. Best part is I still have a half gallon left! This paint was not cheap however it was well worth the price and that's something you don't see in many products very often.

It says to apply at temperatures between 50 and 90 degrees. We applied when it was in the 30s in the Northwest but under cover. It could be sanded and another coat applied within two day. It was dry to the touch within one day. We did not roll and tip, just rolled and rolled and rolled until all bubbles were gone. It came out looking great! The brush is for cutting in. Get the best brush you can.
Looks great huh?

I rolled the paint on then tipped it with a brush an a lap strait sail boat. The end product was smooth as silk. I had poeple walk up to the boat thinking it was glass until they got close to see it was made of wood. I also used it with anti-skid for the deck and did not have a fade or flake problem.

Comments about Pettit Z-Spar Pettit EasyPoxy Topside Paint:
I used Pettit Easypoxie, on the bottom and topsides of my 1972 Boston Whaler. It now has blisters all over the bottom and up the sides even as much as six inches above the water line.
This was a project boat, and I did it right. I stripped whole boat right down to below the gel coat. Used degreaser. Then the Pettit special primer, and then the Easypoxie. Looked great too for a week.
This boat is in the water for three months at a time. The blisters appear about a week after launch, stay all summer, and disappear a month or two after it pulled out of the water.
On the can Pettit says it is not to be used for constant immersion. I'd agree with them. Too bad I didn't think to read the can first.

I painted an 18ft. alum. Lowe boat with this paint. It came out pretty good with the roll and tip method. It did dry a little fast, so watch the edges. I would recommend doing the painting inside. I did like the flow of the paint and it did smooth itself out. It was very easy to use.

Super product! Bright white hard finish. Amazingly durable. Initially used for the sides (and even bottom) of a Sunfish. Made my old boat look new. That was 9 years ago and it still looks just painted.
I also painted my kayak paddles for visibility which were originally black. After 9 years of intense abuse, poling in mud, pushing off of rocks, etc, they have hardly a scratch or chip and are still bright white.
I now use it on anything that I want a long lasting, pure-white, hard finish that is maintenance free!!
