Comments about Epifanes Epifanes Wood Finish Matte Varnish:
I used 2 coats of the matte over 2 coats of high gloss on the inside of my cedar strip canoe. It was the perfect contrast finish (form) and does not produce a blinding glare (function) from the sun.
It does have a much stronger odor compared to the epifanes high gloss. The no-sanding window between coats is nice, just be sure to thin properly to your conditions! I had to thin to about 12% by vol. for 70 deg. F 50%RH which is much more then recommended. Note I rolled and tipped with a foam roller and brush.
Bad lighting but good contrast!

This is a great product! I think the sheen is perfect. This is a bit thinner than the gloss varnish, but the application rate is similar. I varnished with this on a hot day and it started to set quickly. So you need to work very fast on hot days! I believe this is an excellent product. The matte finish looks great!

Comments about Epifanes Epifanes Wood Finish Matte Varnish:
I still hate varinishing. Using a product like this means you may never need to refinish again! I think the sheen is perfect for interior projects. It is somewhat thinner than the gloss varnish, but application rate is the same. It brushes a little eassier than the gloss varnish. It does not build as quickly since it has less solid content. So, I normally build the finish with gloss and then complete with one coat of the matte finish. It starts to set quickly, so you must keep a wet edge. If you use only one coat you must apply evenly and rather thick to have the surface level out the brush strokes. The doors below have three coats of gloss followed by one coat of this matte finish. I am very pleased with the product.
This is how they should have looked from the facto
