Had prior trouble with pool debris bypassing the main pool filter and clogging the pump impellers. The Groco unit with the see-through cup and an adequate screening volume made this a great application and time saver, let alone the ease of removing and cleaning the screen filter. Adding the extra valve completed the convenience of servicing the Groco strainer. The impeller now squeals much less and runs much quieter. The only reason it wasn't 5 stars was the decision to use the nylon mesh over that of a stainless steel screen like the bronze models. But then again, we're not spending three times as much, are we?

This Groco strainer is a lower cost alternative when the capacity of the larger strainers is not needed. I find it works fine for a small engine (Atomic 4) raw water cooling inlet. Also, for a head raw water inlet. In both cases water flow is light to moderate. A compact unit complete with mounting bracket.
