Boat Fenders & Floating Buoys

Mooring Balls and Pickup Buoys

Step away from your vessel with peace of mind with this selection of fenders, mooring buoys and floats. Whether you're vessel is moored in a quiet sheltered cove or riding ocean swell in exposed waters, hard shell mooring balls with high density flotation are the best choice. Cal June and Taylor Made offer quality mooring buoys. Quality features include UV resistant rigid shell design with high density foam core. This means plenty of buoyancy, needed to absorb shock of mooring chains at sea, and watertight integrity keeps the ball floating proud all season long. The mooring balls floating high easy to spot, less likely to be run over and comply with navigation regulations. Be sure to size the mooring buoy to float the weight of chain required for your mooring rig. Size requirements are based on vessel size and exposure to open waters, and are typically outlined by your local harbormaster for each harbor. See Chapman Piloting & Seamanship Book for a thorough description of a mooring rig. Taylor Made has a new innovative mooring ball with an indented center which nests the shackle attachment and pendant. This unique feature shields boat gelcoat from gouging and dings. Add a Mast buoy or pickup buoy to make catching the moooring painter a cinch at the end of the cruise.

Fenders and dock bumpers

Most costly damage and dings are preventable with adequate fendering. Dock bumpers and fenders save on repairs and money. They also absorb shock in challenging dockings and hard landings in heavy weather. Cruising vessels should keep adequate fendering onboard for the eventuality of unkind dock edges. Fenders also cushion when rafting alongside another boat on a shared mooring. Beware of exposed fastener heads, corners and pilings around the dock; these gremlins have an attraction to boat finish. To protect your boat from damage, choose quality fenders such as the Taylor Made Hull Gard line. Buffer danger areas around the dock with bumpers, and stow a selection of fenders onboard when underway. Fender Covers such as fleece boots dress up bumpers to match the boat finish. Accessories make deploying fenders easy, with attachment points and fender lines. Dock wheels ease a boat around hard dock corners, guiding a vessel smoothly into or out of a slip. These are great tools to dock a boat under control by simply backing on a spring line and turning the corner.

Regulation and marker buoys

Regulatory buoys such as no wake, slow speed and swim area markers keep harbors and beaches safe from high boat traffic. Large round fenders, sometimes called Norwegian balls, are often used to suspend commercial fishing gear, or to fend off vessels of heavy tonnage. They're also great for smaller boats when rafting up. The larger size allows more space for boats to ride should large wakes roll through the anchorage or mooring field. In such a case, the larger buoy will help keep rub rails from shearing off. Life rings are required on most vessels. Make sure life jackets and life ring buoys are marked with vessel name when putting them in service, it's required on commercially inspected vessels and a good idea on private boats.
