18-8 Square Head Auger Point Deck Screws. Single Auger point Deck Screws are excellent for outdoor applications. Self Drilling Type 17 Auger points are great for pressure treated lumber and other decking materials. You cannot get away without predrilling your screwholes but Auger points certainly make it easier to drive into hardwoods. Marine grade Stainless Steel for excellent outdoor corrosion resistance.
These deck screws have a bugle head. A bugle head has a comparatively small head diameter to the width of screw shank. Combined with a curved radius undercut (like the shape of a bugle), the bugle head eliminates the need to countersink.

2011-09-30DAVE GARDNER: 18-8 Stainless Steel is a marine grade stainless and in my opinion a great choice. I guess you could go with a 316-grade stainless which is a better grade of metal but you will pay for it and I would think not necessary.
These Auger Point Deck Screws are nice. They look great and stay looking great in exterior applications. I used them on my deck a couple of years ago.
And I would not hesitate to use them again.
2011-10-01KENNETH FRAIBERG: The SS deck screws will do fine. They will last a long time. No need to countersink, they will do that themselves if you snug them up to the wood. They will go deeper if you allow them to.
2011-10-03AUSTIN MCKENNEY: I have used 18-8 deck screws with PT structures for some time with good results. I can not attest to total lifetime as it depends on many variables, including environment. However my experience to date has been positive in a damp seaside environment.

Facing the ocean our home takes a beating from the rain sand and wind not to mention salt air. Anything metal corrodes quickly, iron rusts if not constantly repainted. Building a fence you would see the galvanized nails corrode just as any other metal except stainless steel. These SS screws take the beating from the coastal elements and do not corrode. High quality and well engineered I recommend these for anyone building a deck or fence in a coastal environment.
