Comments about Torqeedo Travel 401 Electric Outboard Motor:

The 401S has plenty of power, when it runs. After 9 months the weakness has shown up. The motor has refused to run 3 times due to corrosion even though I washed the salt water off after each use and spray the contacts with T_9. The connections inside the tiller corrode even though they are sealed off ,somewhat. The shaft has to be taken apart a few times a month and sprayed because of SS pins which are inserted in aluminum.I had to send it back 2 times ,once for the motor to be replaced; seals leaked, motor shorted out. The second time as it will not run [...]I would not recommend the 401 for use near salt water, I don't know about fresh water.Lucky for me I have a spare trolling motor.

Comments about Torqeedo Travel 401 Electric Outboard Motor:

Use it on my 18' trimaran, the battery charge last for 4 trips in and out the canal.Top speed is almost 5kts but works best at half power or 3 to 4 kts with lest vibration. I got rid of about 50 lbs not needing the 12v battery with the old motor. But it is more bulky as it sits higher than my old trolling motor and the speed control works backwards and it is harder to tilt out of the water while sailing. It is definately much better than the trolling motors and worth the price. The propeller is very delicate and can not hit anything or will result in damage. It looks like it will stand up in the salt water but only time will tell.
