2012-12-21STEVEN MARTIN: I'd go with the brass strainer. The plastic cap on the Vetus strainer is sometimes hard toget off and has to be lubracated just right.

2012-09-04STEVEN MARTIN: Tony, Find a way of turning the cap ike you were taking off a oil fiter. Be careful to not use a hammer against the heavier pastic part of the cap. And only tighten it as much as you have to, My dad a similar cap on his pool pump strainer and he use vasoline on the inside threads.(check on that , but I think it migh tbe a good idea).

2012-05-22MARTIN WAGNER: No trick that I know about. Once or twice I have had to put a strap wrench on the outside of the lid to get it started. When you get it off, lubricate both the o-ring and the threads with either a silicone or teflon based lubricant. That will help a lot, but it is still hard to keep from over-thightening the lid.
