2012-09-04A shopper asked: I have a 1993 Kencraft 215 challenger with the original steering. How do I know what kit to order? There arent any numbers on my ram anywhere?
+Expand Answers
2012-09-05CLARENCE NEW: I ordered my by looks, I had the one that scred off so I needed the two pin wrench. Hope that helped.
2012-07-15NORMAN B asked: would I need anyother parts for this rebuild kit ?
+Expand Answers
2012-07-16CLARENCE NEW: Did not use the rebuild kit. Returned for new cylinder, because it leaked internally. If just ends leak, rebuild kit works.
2012-07-17THOMAS DELBRIDGE: In order to generate enough torque to loosen the seal glands from the cylinder, I used a long socket wrench handle. The spanner wrench that comes with the kit has a square hole in which a socket drive can be inserted.
2012-07-17ZACH WHITSON: No, it's a pretty basic cylinder. this fixed all my seeps. I also re taped the teflon on the threaded fittings.
2012-07-18ROBERT ROEFER: Norman the kit is compleat,You may need some hydraulic steering oil.
2012-07-19RICK HONEYCUTT: no,everything you need is there, you must remove both end mounting brachets to replace the seals, I had trouble figuring out, the shaft is solid from one side to the other
2012-07-22KEVIN NUGENT: no you don't need anything else all there and very simple
2012-05-27A shopper asked: what is the guide tool for?
+Expand Answers
2012-05-29JEFFREY WATERS: this helps put the seal on the rod
2012-05-30MARCUS LYNG: the tool goes over the end of the rod covering the screw threads so the end seals don't get scratched
2012-06-21TED TYLER: Unfortunately, I never got to that point. Upon inspecting my piston rod,
I found defects in it which the directions stated that the whole hydraulic
assembly would need to be replaced. I returned the seal kit for refund
and purchased the whole assembly from Jamestown. Sorry I couldn't
help you. FYI...Jamestown customer service was fantastic on my
refund and reorder.
2012-05-21A shopper asked: will this kit fit a 60hp yahama 4 stroke power trim seal ?
2012-04-21TIM MAGINNIS asked: how far apart are the tabs on the seal kit wrench?
+Expand Answers
2012-04-26ZACH WHITSON: they are 1.5" inchesapart center to center
2012-04-27CHARLES JONES: it doesn't matter. You can turn the aluminum piece with a pair of curved channel lock pliers.
2012-04-27tim maginnis: Hi Charles; I tried that and couldn't budge it. Even if I do get it off, will the seals be the right size? Are all th eshafts the same diameter. My steering unit on the 1986 Grady White is "Marlo". The engine serial number is 863712. The cylinder does not have an HC or HS number.
2012-04-27CHARLES JONES: answer to your first question is 1.5 inches.
They were the right size for me. Engine numbers have nothing to do with the hydraulic cylinder.
Squeeze it tight with large channel locks and turn counterclockwise. Mine came loose. It is a salt water seasoned one. The part is aluminum and the cylinder is steel so it corrodes.
2012-04-29MICHAEL KURKA: 1-1/2" center to center
2012-05-04ROBERT ROEFER: They are one and onehalf inch apart, good luck!
2012-05-04tim maginnis: the tabs on my cylinder a 7/8" apart..............I sure this is an obsolitecylihnder. 1986 OMC Sea Drive (OB)
2012-02-21SANDI B asked: what spacer kit is for the hc5340?
+Expand Answers
2012-03-15CHARLES JONES: Sandi,
This kit does not provide spacers. Any spacers you have will not change with replacing the two seals in the screw in ends.

So easy a caveman could have done it, except the hydraulic steering ram removal.Take your time and use the proper tools or you will regret starting this project! Should be done in less than a couple of hours though.

Comments about Teleflex Hydraulic Seal Kit For Outboard Cylinders:
The hardest part was getting the end piece brackets off to the tiller tube. In my case I was replacing the Quad ring in the helm and had rented a 4" puller to remove the steering wheel. With a little help from the puller on the end piece brackets, they came off pretty quick.

Product is easy to put, but another hand is a big time saver. Someone to turn the wheel while you bleed is a huge time saver. A 5 year old could even do that.
