Questions & Answers about Soundown Acoustic Absorption Foam:
2012-05-10A shopper asked: Does this product come with a peel off self sticking backing or do I have to use an adhesive?
+Expand Answers
2012-05-11JAMES ANDREWS: this is what you get: soft foam with foil stuck to the other side. The foil side faces the engine so some how I need to stick the foam to the boat. I have no idea. I bought some spray glue in hopes to make it work, but I have my doubts. I'll try it this weekend and let you know.
2012-05-13JAMES ANDREWS: I used Loctite spray adhesive professional performance 300. Sprayed the foam part of the foam and then sprayed the thing I was sticking it to. Waited 3 minutes and it worked perfect! I didn't think it would work but it's really stuck on there. Be careful becuase once it's on you're not moving it.
2012-06-03RICHARD KORN: The product does not have adhesive ... one side is the foam and the other side is an sliver mylar like coating. I installed the material in the engine room overhead with screws and washers spaced about a foot apart ... the screws were long enough to go through the material (1") and then into the bulkhead with the washers preventing pull through.
2012-06-06RAYMOND T MIRIKITANI: You need to use contact cement or similar adhesive from your local hardware store. Spread the cement on the hard contacting surface.
2012-02-07A shopper asked: Background first. I have a boiler in our finished basement of the house which makes A LOT of noise which we can even hear upstairs. The boiler together with other pieces of equipment, water tank, etc. are encapsulated in a space which has two separate doors (with a couple of inches at the bottom of each door for air circulation). If I glue the soundown acoustic absorption foam to the back of each door (inside of the space where the boiler is) would the sound be drastically reduced? I would install the 1" thick.
Or is there a better product/solution? Can someone help me? Thanks!!.

2012-02-21RAYMOND T MIRIKITANI: I looked at several different products including this foam. The alternative is a dense rubber material used on boats with diesel motors and comes with a sticky backing and tape, usually laid on the above deck and outer doors of the engine room. Don't know what "drastically reduced" would mean. There will be some reduction - try Home Depot.
2012-03-07ED MILLER: I find the foam quieted down my Yanmar dispel considerably. I have no idea what the actual decibel reduction is. There are lots of heavy fiberglass insulation products which are cheaper since you don't have to worry about oil and fuel.
2012-07-29Romelia Schneider: Question to "A Shopper Asked" queston. I have the SAME EXACT situation in my house and your encapsulated equipment is exactly the same as mine - boiler, etc. Did you install the 1" thick foam noise barrier? Did it work? PLEASE reply ASAP. Thank you.
2011-12-19A shopper asked: I have an I/O and would like to line the inside of my motor cover with this material to help cut down on the noise....can I use this material? Also . how do I attach this material to the inside of the fiberglas cover?

2012-02-05ED MILLER: That's what I'm using it for. I used a spray on contact adhesive.
2011-12-05LESLIE S. asked: i want to order some soundown 1 inch accousical insualtion.
I want the one with the metalized covering.
does the soundown come with this metalized covering?
+Expand Answers
2011-12-30MARC PINCINCE: Yes ,this does have the metalized covering.
2012-01-21RAYMOND T MIRIKITANI: The foam comes with metallic covering on one side. The edges are not covered. I bought this foam and went to Home Depot and bought a roll of metallic tape for around $4 to cover the edges.
2012-01-28JOHN NOTCH: Hello Leslie,
Yes, it does. The foam is flexible and so is the metal coating.
Regards,
John
2011-10-22A shopper asked: Is this product fire rated and can I use it in the engine compartment near my generator?
I used this to replace the old, crumbling engine room insulation on my 26' cruiser. It's easy to cut and install. I was expecting a big reduction in sound levels coming from the engine room, but frankly it sounds about the same. Good product, but I expected more sound attenuation.
