After tightening the flange nut the wiper itself has a strong spring to apply pressure of the wiper blade on the windshield. Works well. I have mine mounted on the windshield of a JohnDeere Gator. Not sure how you would drill through glass....never done that before. Hope this helps. 2012-02-25 MIKE SPERRY: I have an old Crestliner boat that had one of these factory installed. The rubber blade and its holder wore out so I got a new one last summer. This assembly is much better than the old one. It does fit through a hold in the windshield. I assume the windshield is plexiglas and not glass. This is a good unit and I do recommend it. On another note the wiper is very short and made very cheaply. I had to adapt a standard wiper to get the results I was looking for. The manual handle is made very well. I don't know why they didn't go with a standard wiper and arm. 2011-10-19 MIKE SPERRY: I don't know if this will help you or not, but I bought a boat years ago that has a wiper like this one (only not as well made). It gave out so I bought this one. This is a very good unit and works just great on my boat and I would recommend it to anyone, but I have no idea if you will be able to mount it on your ATV or not.
