I have these switches in on-off-on as well as on -off.
sure they will work great for what you want...they do draw a LITTLE power when not in use, as the lights are on when power is supplied to the switch.

2011-10-20ROBERT DUTROW: I installed this on my boat as a replacement accessory switch. The switches are very reliable. I have had them on my boat for 11 years. Not one switch has gone bad. The light as I remember is white. The light is not very bright and hard to see in daylight when in the on position. You would need to check the switch amperage rating to see if it is suitable for your HID's and stereo as you may have to split the load among multiple switchs. On my boat the highest amperage use is fused for 20 amps. I hope this is helpful.

A SPDT switch have one electrical source that can operate either one device or another. Poles means how many circuits are involved. Throw refers to how many different On positions you have. In both cases you'll have up on, or down on, and you can make them do different things. For example I use the up position on my my DPDT for running the auxilliary light circuits and down for Heaters. Both eat power like there is no tommorow, so I only want to run one or the other. I use a SPDT to control HI or Lo on the heat.
So a SPDT is a switch that is center off and turns one circuit to Up/On or Down/On. A DPDT is analogous to taping two SPDT switches together.

2011-09-21LEONARD BARTHOLOMEW: Single Pole Double Throw and Double Pole Double Throw. Single is the most common when you need only switch one simple circuit. Double when you need to switch both wires or two circuits or.. reverse polarity.

Well designed easy to use switches, easy to install. They are NOT waterproof, have had continuing problems with water on the internal connections. I would recommend them for covered/semi-covered applications, though not for use in areas recieving moderate to heavy rain or spray.

I got a DPDT, a DPST and the switch panel to mount them fancily. The switches are big, which is both pro and con. They have a very loud, easily felt click so even in noisy environments there's not doubt you clicked them. Unfortunately they are extremely deep so if you have limited in/out space between bulkheads you may want to look elsewhere, but apart from that they're easy to install if you buy the panel (you should.) I was particularly impressed by the quality of the spec/wiring sheets that came with them, a welcome reference when you're squinting into a tiny space trying to fit a spade connector by feel and suddenly forget which connection is which.
