Questions & Answers about Blue Sea Systems Waterproof Contura Switches - Black:
2011-10-10DAVID BATEMAN` asked: What is the difference between the various items #'s for these switches? How can I know that I'm getting the correct one to replace on my boat?
2011-10-06A shopper asked: What color is the light?
Will these plugs work for an on off switch for off road HIDs and a stereo amp
+Expand Answers
2011-10-06ROBERT JOHNSON: the light is an orangish color.
I have these switches in on-off-on as well as on -off.
sure they will work great for what you want...they do draw a LITTLE power when not in use, as the lights are on when power is supplied to the switch.

2011-10-06JOHN M WERNER: RED Light
Will work fine for anyoutdoor use, however you may need to install a relay for high current applications.
2011-10-20JAMES SLAMP: The light is white, the switch should work with no problems as long has you have a plate tpo mount the switch into. this shoiuld answer all your questions.
2011-10-20ROBERT DUTROW: I installed this on my boat as a replacement accessory switch. The switches are very reliable. I have had them on my boat for 11 years. Not one switch has gone bad. The light as I remember is white. The light is not very bright and hard to see in daylight when in the on position. You would need to check the switch amperage rating to see if it is suitable for your HID's and stereo as you may have to split the load among multiple switchs. On my boat the highest amperage use is fused for 20 amps. I hope this is helpful.
2011-10-21ALAN JUDSON: A faint red light.
I would assume so if the equipment is 12 volt and within the amperage rating of the switch.
2011-09-18A shopper asked: What do SPDT & DPDT stand for?
+Expand Answers
2011-09-20ROBERT BOND: SPDT - Single Pole Double Throw
DPDT - Double Pole Double Throw
2011-09-20DALE CALENDER: The terms SPST and DPDT refers to single pole double throw or double pole double throw switch.
A SPDT switch have one electrical source that can operate either one device or another. A DPDT switch may have two electrical sources that may operate one device or operate two devices simutaneously; for example a DPDTswitch may just illuminate a stern light acting as an anchor light or the running lights including the stern light.
2011-09-20KENT MCCLISH: Sorry, I have no idea. All I know is that the switch works great.
2011-09-20JOHN RHETTS: These are standard nomenclature abbreviations for
SinglePole-DoubleThrow and
DoublePole-Double Throw.
Poles refer to how many devices you want to switch - one or two
Throw defines whether you are simply turning a circuit on/off [single throw] or one circuit on and another off [double throw] when you change the switch.
more from Wickepedia:
The terms pole and throw are also used to describe switch contact variations. The number of "poles" is the number of separate circuits which are controlled by a switch. For example, a "2-pole" switch has two separate identical sets of contacts controlled by the same knob. The number of "throws" is the number of separate positions that the switch can adopt. A single-throw switch has one pair of contacts that can either be closed or open. A double-throw switch has a contact that can be connected to either of two other contacts, a triple-throw has a contact which can be connected to one of three other contacts, etc.[4]
These terms give rise to abbreviations for the types of switch which are used in the electronics industry such as "single-pole, single-throw" (SPST) (the simplest type, "on or off") or "single-pole, double-throw" (SPDT), connecting either of two terminals to the common terminal.
2011-09-20TODD COX: Single Pole Dual Throw and Dual Pole Dual Throw
Poles means how many circuits are involved. Throw refers to how many different On positions you have. In both cases you'll have up on, or down on, and you can make them do different things. For example I use the up position on my my DPDT for running the auxilliary light circuits and down for Heaters. Both eat power like there is no tommorow, so I only want to run one or the other. I use a SPDT to control HI or Lo on the heat.
So a SPDT is a switch that is center off and turns one circuit to Up/On or Down/On. A DPDT is analogous to taping two SPDT switches together.
2011-09-21JAMES SLAMP: SPDT has one pole but you are able to switch between two contacts.DPDT operaters same as SPDT it has 2 poles and 4 contacts. Hope this answers your question. Jim
2011-09-21LEONARD BARTHOLOMEW: Single Pole Double Throw and Double Pole Double Throw. Single is the most common when you need only switch one simple circuit. Double when you need to switch both wires or two circuits or.. reverse polarity.

Comments about Blue Sea Systems Waterproof Contura Switches - Black:
Well designed easy to use switches, easy to install. They are NOT waterproof, have had continuing problems with water on the internal connections. I would recommend them for covered/semi-covered applications, though not for use in areas recieving moderate to heavy rain or spray.

Comments about Blue Sea Systems Waterproof Contura Switches - Black:
I got a DPDT, a DPST and the switch panel to mount them fancily. The switches are big, which is both pro and con. They have a very loud, easily felt click so even in noisy environments there's not doubt you clicked them. Unfortunately they are extremely deep so if you have limited in/out space between bulkheads you may want to look elsewhere, but apart from that they're easy to install if you buy the panel (you should.) I was particularly impressed by the quality of the spec/wiring sheets that came with them, a welcome reference when you're squinting into a tiny space trying to fit a spade connector by feel and suddenly forget which connection is which.
