Pettit EasyPoxy Topside Paint

Pettit Easypoxy is a highly rated, one-part polyurethane topside paint improved by the addition of silicone for a brilliant shine and easy brushability. It also contains ultraviolet filters to enhance the already superior gloss retention and durability of polyurethane.

This results in a topside finish that is exceptionally easy to apply and produces a lasting gelcoat-like brilliance with minimum effort. Easypoxy is available in white and twenty-five popular topside colors.

  • APPLICATION INFORMATION
Stir thoroughly before use. Easypoxy may be applied by brush, roller, conventional or airless spray. For brush or roller application apply without thinning, although in hot weather 5-10% Pettit 120 Brushing Thinner may be added to maintain a wet edge. For best results on large, smooth surfaces roll out using a short nap roller followed immediately by leveling off with the tip of a brush.

For conventional spray application thin 15-20% with Pettit 121 Spraying Thinner. Apply one, thin even coat per day. After an overnight dry, lightly sand with 220 grit sandpaper and apply a second coat.

Applying two or more coats in one day or applying excessively heavy films (greater than 4 wet mils) will lead to insufficient through drying of the paint and will yield soft paint films. For airless spray application thin up to 5% with Pettit 121 Spraying Thinner.

Utilize a .011-.015 inch diameter tip for application. Do not apply Easypoxy on extremely humid days (90Deg+ RH) or when rain is threatening. Do not apply in the late afternoon when working outdoors as the wet film may be adversely affected by dew. When working in cooler temperatures be sure the air and surface temperatures will remain at or above 50Deg F for at least 8 hours after application.

  • SURFACE PREPARATION
Surface must be free of dirt, loose paint, rust, oil, grease, wax, soap and any other foreign matter before painting. Clean painted areas by washing with a solution of 2 cups household ammonia per gallon of water and rinse well. Remove existing mildew with household bleach instead of ammonia.

We are rebuilding a 1970's pontoon which needed some help! We picked EasyPoxy Burgundy for a top side color!

EasyPoxy mixed well and spread over the painted aluminum well. Its a very thick paint which means that you dont need to lay the paint on thich! Just worked a small bit in at a time. 2 Coats is all you need and the gloss finish is fantastic!

Our boat will be the sharpest 1970's era out on the Minnesota lakes!

Both this product and Interlux Brightsides are similar single stage polyurethane enamels and both claim spray application as one of the 4 options to apply. However, I don't find much in the way of instructions or references for spraying. So I'll add my 2 cents. Interlux instructs no more than 10% of it's thinner (xylene) and Pettit, 15-20% (xylene/mineral spirits). Temp & humidity factor in and having used both products here in St. Croix, Virgin Islands, 85 deg., 80% hum., I got the best results with 5% thinner in both. You must run trial tests for your conditions. I use a LVLP spray gun with a 1.4mm tip to avoid runs and it has exellent dispersment. I was striving to get that glassy mirror like finish (like Awl-Grip) but the best I could achieve was a sprayed-on look. The polyurethane does not like to atomize finely nor flow smoothly when it contacts the surface applied to. I sprays easily and evenly, covers very well and leaves an attractive, bright, glossy finish but not glassy.

Perfect for what I wanted. We are rehabing a 1964 airstream Bambi. We had the old yellow grazed shower/toilet pan. It was ugly and I didn't want to use it. Then I read about your Petite easyPoxy topside paint someone else used on their old shower pan and I looked at your website and ordered it. Looks like new and it is a nice hard professional finish. Would highly recommend it. I am also going to try it on an old claw foot bathtub we have here at our vacation rental place. We renovated 3 old houses but I need to refinish the tub. That will be my next project with easypoxy.
      Thanks, Virginia

I had never done roll & tip before but once mastered the result looked nearly sprayed on. This was a large surface project on a 40' house boat still tied to the dock. It took 2 coats and I believe it would look even better with a 3rd. This must be applied in even thin coats otherwise you'll get runs & sags. Keep a sharp eye out for those afternoon T Storms. It doesn't like to get wet too soon.

I used this to paint the transom and deck of my Tanzer 22, it came out perfect even without priming it. I used a small roller and then tipped it with a 3 inch brush to smooth it all out. Two coats was all i needed to do to cover it because of the white gel coat underneath. I was considering spraying it and doing the whole boat in the fall but after seeing how nicely it went on i think i will just roll and tip for the rest of the boat. I plan on doing the interior with it sometime this summer as well.

Ordered this paint to repaint a boat the same color as I did in 10/18/2009. This paint is on a drift boat that gets a lot of use, and this paint has held up better then I ever expected. One tough paint! The color matched perfect! The only advice I would give on using this paint, is let it cure up, don't be in a hurry to get in water, I let my boat paint jobs setup for three weeks to a month.

The head and shower on my boat is fiberglass and the gelcoat had aged. I painted all with gloss white using roller and tippping with a brush. I got a wonderful result looks like it was sprayed. In time the gloss white has yellowed significantly. I wanted to touch up a coupl of worn areas and the yellowing in one year was so significant I would need to re-coat the entire shower and head for it to look normal.

Sand 80 grit and 2 coats primer with the 6149 and 15% 12121 thinner. Sand with 120 grit and paint 1 coat per day with Top Coat thinned 10-15% with 12121. Don't touch for a week and it will be hard as a rock. Before starting the full project I tested the above method and after a week I tapped it with a steel wrench. No chips, dings or scratches.
