Mixing Instructions:
The gelcoat you are buying is an Isophthalic, NPG gelcoat with wax additive for an air dry post applied application. Mixing instruction depends on the temperature and preferable dry times. The higher percentage of catalyst the faster it will dry. Air and surface temperature will also affect the drying of the gelcoat. The colder the air temperature, the higher the percentage of catalyst you should use. Do not go below 1/2% or above 2%.

Catalyst Guidline

    Catalyst Percentage
  • 1/2% - (79-85 F)
Quart: 4-6 cc, Gallon: 23-26 cc, 5 Gallon: 110-130 cc
  • 1% - (72-78 F)
Quart: 8-12 cc, Gallon: 42-47 cc, 5 Gallon: 220-230 cc
  • 1 1/4% - (66-71 F)
Quart: 11-14 cc, Gallon: 55-60 cc, 5 Gallon: 275-285 cc
  • 1 1/2% - (61-65 F)
Quart: 13-16 cc, Gallon: 65-70 cc, 5 Gallon: 335-345 cc
  • 2% - (55-60 F)
Quart: 17-21 cc, Gallon: 86-94 cc, 5 Gallon: 450-460 cc
Tips
  • 1 mL = 1 cc
  • If using wood mixing stick, place stick in resin before adding catalyst so wood doesn't absorb catalyst

Great product ready to mix and apply. Wish it was in a container that was easier to pour from especially when mixing 1 pint at a time. Otherwise great!

Comments about Jamestown Distributors Colored Air Dry Gelcoats:

So I purchased the Oyster White to use on the bottom of my 20 year old boat because the boat wasn't as bright white as it used to be. My old gel coat was worn through in some spots and the rest was chalky from beaching the boat. I guessed on the color and it was a perfect match. I thought I would spray it with Preval Sprayer but that did not work. I couldn't get the gel coat thin enough. So because my repair was all under the boat(1 foot wide, 8 feet long) I just rolled it with a mini roller. First coat, let dry for a day, light sand, wiped with acetone, rolled a second coat. I sanded that 320, 400, 600 wet and polished. It has a shiny, textured look, but you would think the boat came like that new. Also I used 12 drops of hardener per oz. at 70 degrees, worked perfect.

Comments about Jamestown Distributors Colored Air Dry Gelcoats:

The product is quality and I found that mixing the appropriat amount of hardner depending on temperature and between 10 to 15% styrene to reduce sprays very well in an automotive syphon gun with a tip of 1.8mm. HOWEVER! what they dont tell you is there is only 24 to 25 ounces in each quart. Plan for this! you wont get two 16 ounce (pint) batches like I planned. Every "quart" is like that trust me. Thankfully the guys down in the Retail shop understood my frustrations and took great care of me. Thanks guys!

I purchased this product to re-glass a fishbox lid for a 2003 Wellcraft 210 Fisherman.

The color perfectly matched the interior gelcoat of the boat.

The product was easy to use and I am very happy with the project!

This product is excellent to work with because it is very forgiving. I mixed this with 8 oz of gel with 1/2 oz of styrene and 1 teaspoon of hardener and it was the perfect recipie for spraying. I used an HVLP spray gun with 1.4 mm tip and it came out absolutley perfect. It does take at least three coats for non transparency but it looks excellent. The only downfall I have for this is that it came in a gallon pail not the jug that you see on the picture and that made for some very messy mixing as you can just pour it without getting it all over. sand between coats with 220on firstcoat, 400 on sec, and 600+ on third. buffed with finess II and waxed with colnite 885 perfect finish.
