2013-01-18SCOTT BELDEN: I would use the spray can. A close friend of mine used a sprayer and had some wrinkle issues. Unless your a pro at thinning. Its perfect out of the can and tuff.
I painted my 1970 beetle with cans, worked great:)

2013-01-19BRUCE CHUMLEY: Ed, I would make certain that you've cleaned & primed your trailer very well before you use any kind of topcoat.
Despite claims, there is no such thing as a 'set it and forget it' coating.
Specifically, you'll probably have best results with the rattle cans unless you're an experienced painter.
Shake the can vigorously and often while you're painting. Can't stress that enough.

2013-01-19JON BEHM: the cans would probably do a fine job but I am guessing you would need allot of them to do a trailer.
2013-01-21KENNETH JONES: Dear Ed, I painted my trailer with a brush - it was a trailer for a 26' boat so it would have cost me a ton to use spray cans. I considered a paint sprayer, but the paint is very thick (like glue) and I felt I would have to thin it so much that it would not work the way it was intended. Even using the brush, you would have thought that the trailer was dipped. Not easy to work with, but looks great when dry - no visible brush marks, just smooth like glass. (I did use the spray cans for area's I could not get into with the brush)

2012-05-02LOUIS TEER: Bill, I have used Hammerite for many years and find it a superior product. I think it would be excellent for your application. I suggest at least two coats.

A good rugged paint, though it is just an alkyd, like 80% of the rattle-can paint sold today so you can expect it to fade a chalk within a few years. Rustoleum makes a virtual rip-off clone of this paint, for a about half the price. I have used both and they seem very comparable.
I have had good luck with the textured version especially going over rust. it seems to hold up well, and the texture hides any rust pits. Very useful for touching up stuff where you don't want to do a full blast/etch/prime/topcoat
