MAS Slow hardener is formulated for use with MAS epoxy resins and can be applied in a wide range of conditions where increased working time is required.
We highly recommend MAS Slow Hardener when coating or laminating large surfaces. The Slow formulation cures blush free and eliminates the need for time consuming wash downs during on-going laminations or repetitive build coats.
Use this hardener (200-250 poise) with MAS low viscosity epoxy resin for fast wet-out of reinforcing fabrics.
Note: Due to this item's high hazardous content, the 4 gallon and larger containers cannot be shipped by UPS or FedEx under any circumstances.
Use protective gloves when working with epoxy resin systems. Use soap and water or white vinegar to clean your hands. Use Denatured Alcohol to clean your tools.

Questions & Answers about MAS Epoxies Slow Hardener:
2013-03-29JOHNGALT J asked: Can I add white color of some type to the slow set epoxy?
+Expand Answers
2013-03-29JOE HUSEONICA: It will depend on the chemical content of the additive you are using. I would suggest mixing a "1 pump" batch of epoxy, put in your additive and use to glue two pieces of scrap wood. If they bond and hold then you have your answer.
2012-10-06A shopper asked: what size hardner is needed with a gallon MAS?
+Expand Answers
2012-10-08Kerry Souza: MAS is a 2:1 mix ratio so you will need 1/2 a gallon of hardener to a gallon of resin, thanks.
2012-03-19BILL MCINERNEY asked: What is the minimum temperature I can use the Mas Epoxy with slow hardener?
+Expand Answers
2012-03-20BRAD KURLANCHEEK: don't know what the min is; i've used it without problems when the temp in the work room was in the 40s, but never below; i recommend keeping the resin and hardener in a room temperature room for long term storage; you may also want to mix the hardener and resin in the warm room first, and then take the batch you've mixed to the cold room for application
2012-03-20TIMOTHY HILTNER: I used the slow hardener during the fall in Ohio and didn't have any problems as long as the temp was at least 60 degrees F.
2012-03-20THOMAS PALMER: You don't want it to freeze but otherwise you should be safe. The cooler the temp, the longer the curing process.

2012-03-20RICHARD A WIESEN: I have not used MAS epoxy under about 50 degrees. It cures more slowly as ot gets cooler, also, the resin gets thicker as it get colder. The thick resin can be hard to measure with thepumps and accurate measurement is very important, I worked in a shop that would be very cool when I arrived and would warm the resin in the gallon container with a heat gun.A tub of hot water would also work. We then kept the kayaks we were working on warmer with lamps placed under the boat. If you are using epoxy to seal a surface as we used it as a water barrier and base for varnishing on the kayaks it is best to either keep the boat at a constant temperature orget it warm and let it slowly cool as the epoxy hardens. This prevents outgassing which forms small bubbles in the epoxy surface. Outgassing happens whhen the wood warms and gasses in the wood expand and get relased from the wood but get trapped in the hardening epoxy.I hope this helps Gary
2012-03-20RICHARD A WIESEN: I just checked the MAS website . they say that 45degrees is adequate for bonding. 55 to 60 degrees for clear coating Gary
2012-03-21THORNTON CODY: Bill,
I've used MAS epoxy for over 15 years and would never change. I'm not sure what the label says, but I set the thermostat in my barn at 60 and it's hard the following morning. I turn the furnace off at that point and have had no problem with final cure.
2011-09-09SILVERIO M asked: would this product be good for a deck that is immediately sitting above a Garage as extra strength?
+Expand Answers
2011-09-13JOE HUSEONICA: I used the product in several coats over fiberglass to finish a kayak. Can't say whether it would be best for your application.
2011-09-13ALAN BAMBINA: Silverio,
While MAS Slow Epoxy Hardener is an excellent waterproofing agent, and certainly would be durable as a deck surface, it may be a bit slippery when it gets wet. You may wish to sprinkle dry sand onto the epoxy immediately after brushing or rolling it on to control the slippery condition.
2011-09-13THOMAS PALMER: MAS epoxy is a great waterproof protection but does not provide any ultraviolet protection so you would still need to add a uv coating or the epoxy will break down. I don't think you will get any added strength, only added waterproofing.
Not as toxic as other hardeners. 2:1 mix with Mas resin as opposed to 5:1 West Systems. No yellow tint as with West System

it works nice and slow giving you a lot of working time. In colder temps it might be better to use a faster hardener but I have not tried it.

Comments about MAS Epoxies Slow Hardener:
I first used this product while building Skerry from Chesapeake Light Craft. It's supplied with the kit. It's long working time make it very easy to use for the novice boat builder. The beautiful amber hue it imparts to wood and it's diamond hard finish will give you a boat that will be passed down for generations. Make sure to cover with a Good UV varnish so the epoxy doesn't yellow with age.

Comments about MAS Epoxies Slow Hardener:
The Mas slow hardner system is an excellent choice for people who need a little extra set up time as it is slower to go off than some other epoxies I have used. It sets up clear on it's own and mixes well with additives. I will be using this product on all my new projects.

Comments about MAS Epoxies Slow Hardener:
I used the MAS Epoxy resin products for repairs on an Hydra Sports Aero Cobra I am restoring. The slow hardener was a great choice for the repairs I had and did everything MAS said it would. Its slower set up time gave me plenty of time to work. It was easy to mix and apply. I ran out with one small job to do so I bought another brand locally. I greatly preferred the MAS over the other brand.
