Slim hadger hair brushes feature Redtree badger style China bristle, and are slightly thinner than standard badger hair paint brushes. These slimmer brushes are excellent for Varnish and all marine finish. Badger brushes have a brushy appearance as the hair is cone shaped, thick near the tip and thin near the root.
Badger hair is somewhat stiff even in longer lengths. Most badger-hair brushes have a fan or round shape with a flat top for blending.

2012-04-01ADAM PAQUIN: yes the hairs some times fall out. it means that the glue giving way in the metal part of the brush wich that is from the (thiner or the brush cleaner) that you are using DO NOT let sit for long time in thiner or cleaner.

2012-04-01WILLIAM ROBERTSON IV: No, I use a lot of these in different sizes and have not had problems with shedding.
2012-04-01JERRY VANDERVORT: Yes I do but usually only during its first couple of uses. Seems as though once they have been used and cleaned a couple of times it subsides.
2012-04-01PAUL LYONS: This is a very good brush. I have had no problems with bristles coming out. I use the brush on my teak furniture with Sikkens products and it works very well.
2012-04-02WALTER MCCLAIN: Yes but I see this with all flat style brushes. Try pulling lightly on the bristles before first using it. Also it helps to was the brush before first use as this knocks a few looser bristles free before you start varnishing. I have never tried an oval or round bristle arrangement brush so I don't know if they are better or not.
2012-04-03MARK ANDERSON: I had good results with these brushes. Did not encounter a single loose hair from the brush.
2012-04-09NORIKO IWAMOTO: I used the slim badger hair brush and it worked fine. I don't know how it would work for a very large area, though.
Unlike other reviewers, I found this brush to be of high quality, with few loose bristles. I used it to apply 5 coats of marine varnish to a handcrafted wood paddle board and was extremely pleased with the results. I have finished many woodworking projects and have never been totally pleased with the brushes I have used. From now on, anytime I varnish I will be using the badger hair brushes. Thank you.

I use these brushes mainly to apply Interlux Perfection. They shed almost nothing and have the right softness/stiffness for this. I don't try to clean them because the solvent is so expensive and I don't want to risk the quality of the next coat.
