Questions & Answers about 3M Anti-Slip Tape:
2013-04-22A shopper asked: Will this tape work for underwater pool steps?
+Expand Answers
2013-05-14DEREK RYAN: I use it on the saloon ladder of a sailing boat and on deck. It adheres well and has withstood a marine environment with salt water. I am not sure it could withstand permanent immersion in a pool. If you are draining it anyway to clean it might be worth a try as it is not expensive.
Hope this helps
2013-05-14DAVID SHORES: I have not used it in exclusively underwater applications. I put mine on a plank bolted to my boat trailer to make retrieving the boat easier. So, in my situation, it is periodically submerged but not all the time like with pool steps.
Unless you have a cheaper alternative, I would try it if you have a way to let the steps dry out before putting the tape on, then letting the tape dry good before submerging.
Good luck,
/david
2013-05-14DAN LLEWELLYN: I think so. I use it on some wooden steps I built that are under water 2X per day in a saltwater bay near Boston.
2013-05-14SAM RITTER: Unfortunately Not - While the tape does have a fantastic sticky quality, and does not seem to be effected at all by residual moisture, I doubt full submersion would really work. I used this tape for the external step bars on a vehicle - my truck and on one of my old motorcycles to secure the footing, and it held up well - but that involved just rain and normal outside moisture.
2013-05-15Charles Pottenger: I used tape on antique airplane steps. No experience in application for pool steps.
2013-02-08A shopper asked: Is there a shelf life?

2013-02-14WALTER FLOOD: I've had leftovers for over 2 years and it is fine. As long as the adhesive on the back is in good condition, it's fine.
2013-02-14MARCI NORKIN: We had left-overs from our city house that we justed used at our ranch . The tape is five years old and still sticks great and is very plyable, as when purchased. We did store it indoors where it is temperature controlled.house
2013-02-14HOWARD HUNTOON JR: I'm not aware that there is. However what do you mean by shelf life? The stuff wears well as i have not replaced any of it.
2013-02-15CHARLES WHITE: Shelf life: sorry, do not know as I used it all within days of receiving the product.
2013-02-15DENNIS WEEKS: I used mine immediately so shelf life was not an issue. In place on the boat is seems to holding up very well and takes the slip out of where we used the tape.
2012-11-27A shopper asked: Will this tape stick to an outside ramp of unpainted pressure treated wood?
+Expand Answers
2012-11-29Nathan Fournier: Yes, the adhesive on the back will stick as long as that surface is clean and free of all debris, thank you.
2012-11-13A shopper asked: Does this sticky tape stick to rubber?
+Expand Answers
2012-11-13FLEMMING SVEEN: Not permanent. It depends on how soft it is, and the glue on the 3m is not that sticky. I would guess it would be a short affair.
2012-11-13JOHN HEIZER: I have not tried it on rubber. I applied it to the bottom of a fiberglass boat. If the rubber was cleaned and dried correctly it would probably stick for a while. However, rubber flexes - stretches, and contracts and expands with temperature. This tape does not stretch much. I think that this would greatly decrease how long it would stay in place. However, the smaller the piece of anti-slip, the less this is an issue.
2012-11-13STUART PHELPS: No, the tape will not stick to rubber.
The 3M adhesive on this tape is not the best either. I've had it start to peel off after just a couple of months.
I've used regular "contact cement" to put the peeling segments back down and they have stayed glued down.
I you are using small pieces on rubber, I would apply contact cement to both surfaces, wait 15 minutes and then put them together.
2012-11-13MICHAEL KOSTER: No idea, but it does discolor in the sun!
2012-11-13PATRICK LYNCH: I used it in an acrylic bathtub bottom, not on rubber but I would expect it to stick to a rubber surface if it was smoothe and clean. Hope this helps, Pattrick
2012-11-13DAVID SHORES: I applied the tape to a latex-painted wooden plank. It has stuck well. My guess would be that this tape would STICK WELL to plastic or rubber.
2012-11-14DAN LLEWELLYN: 3M products are amazingly sticky. I would think that it would stick if the rubber is not flexed or stretched much. I use it on a set of wooden steps that go down to the beach and several of the steps are under water 2X per day with the tides and it lasts about 2 seasons.
JD pricing continues to be a very good value. More impressive is the quality of JD customer service. They did not have a full 20 yard roll, so they sent me two partial rolls at no additional cost.

Comments about 3M Anti-Slip Tape:
I use the 2" wide white non-skid tape on the bottom of my 16 foot fiberglass P&H Vela Sea Kayak to protect the bottom of my hull from rocks, stones and other suprises as I paddle the Delaware River. It is a cheaper alternative to factory applied kevlar skid strips. I am renewing my non-skid tape after 3+ years of almost daily use. It has held up well (the boat literally sits on top of my car at the ready, exposed to the elements) and certainy has protected my boat from accumulated damage from landing on stoney beaches. Highly reccomended.

Comments about 3M Anti-Slip Tape:
Used to add anti-skid to a dive boat and the treads of the ladder used to exit the water. Tread is subjected to salt water, high humidity, underwater exposure and heavy use. It stands up to extreme weather conditions like tropical storms and hurricanes.
Holds up very well. Once applied, it sticks. Used on fiberglass and metal. Was not used for binding.
