Questions & Answers about On-Off Hull and Bottom Cleaner:
2013-04-14JACKIE MORGAN asked: how good is this product i clean apartments stoves every day i need something very good?
+Expand Answers
2013-04-16STEVE MCKINZIE: Jackie, This On Off cleaner is very good for fiberglass boat hulls, but I would NEVER use it indoors. It could be deadly!!! If you got a whiff of it outdoors you would understand. Sorry.
2013-04-17JOHN HEATON: Jackie,
I use this product to clean the bottom of my boat when I pull it out of the river each fall. It works - washes river scum right off like nothing else will. However...I use this outside and I'm careful to stay upwind. The active ingredient is muriatic acid (I think). If you use this product indoors to clean stoves you will quickly be overcome with serious noxious fumes. I would try a little bit in a very diluted form to see just how much you need to clean a stove. You need to be very careful. I'm not overstating it when I say you might might want to wear a chemical mask. Just be careful and use more than common sense.
John
2013-04-17GEORGE SHEPPARD: Jackie,
On/Off is extremely effective, however the fumes are intense! You would need a respirator for indoor use.
Good Luck
2013-03-02A shopper asked: can i use this on a stainless steel prop?
+Expand Answers
2013-03-09THOMAS PIAZZA: yes you can rinse with plenty of water and wash with soap and water after
2013-02-08A shopper asked: How much do you need to clean the hull of a 19 foot bass boat?
+Expand Answers
2013-02-14GEORGE SHEPPARD: One quart should be sufficient. Wear Protective gloves and safety glasses! Product works great.
Have Fun
2013-02-14GUY JOHNSON: one bottle and a pair of rubber gloves.
2013-02-14ROBERT KOWALSKI: No more than quart. If you have bottom paint just enough for water line less than a pint.
Wear gloves mask and very very old clothes.
2013-02-14DALE WOODWARD: Sorry I don't have an answer yet. First time purchase and I won't try the product until next summer.
2013-02-14CRAIG MILLER: Probally a quart. Just keep brushing it on and then just hose it off. On and off is the best. Buy a good respirator mask and chemical resistant gloves. Do not get this chemical on your skin.
2013-02-14BRIAN WILLIAMSON: Based on my experience it depends on how badly stained and what type of stains you are dealing with. This product is caustic and a little goes a long way if you are dealing with your typical water line staining. However if you are attempting to remove staind from leaves sitting on the gelcoat it does take more. Assuming you are cleaning the entire hull and using additional for spot stains I believe 1 gallon would be sufficient.
2013-02-15STEVE MCKINZIE: I clean my 20.5ft Champion 4 times with 1 qt bottle. Thats from the rub rail down. I don't want it to get on my carpet. And remember to cover your painted trailer surfaces w/plastic Its great stuff, but be sure to heed the warnings on the bottle. Steve McKinzie Quality time Guide service 318 687 0195
2013-02-22BART WESP: Depends on the staining.
For a general seasonal cleaning I will mix half a quart with a couple gallons of water. On the other hand I have used a quart on just the waterline of a 20 foot boat.
The stuff is strong. It also doesn't go bad, so there is always a bottle at hand in my shop to clean a stubborn stain.
2013-01-04EARL MACEY asked: Can it be used on travertine stone?
+Expand Answers
2013-01-07JOHN HEATON: Earl,
Hey there. I have never used On-Off Hull and Bottom Cleaner on travertine pavers or stone. I use it on my boat and I can tell you that it is an amazing product. I spray it on with a pump sprayer and hose it off. Off come the algae from the river.
You might want to try a little bit on the small section out of the way. The cleaner smells as though it has a high level of muriatic acid in it (it will take your breath away if you get a wiff), and it will likely brighten up the surface. I could not swear that it wouldn't damage it.
John
2013-01-07WILLIAM MASTORIS: I have only used it on boat hulls and have not have any concerns with damaging the fiberglass.
2013-01-08CHRISTOPHER SHORT: Earl, I have seen muratic acid remove/dissolve hard water deposits from concrete. I'm not sure but the on-off bottom cleaner may be too strong to begin with. The cleaner contains muratic (hydrochloric) acid and phosphoric acid. These are two of the top 10 strongest acids available . I would try the muratic acid solution found at pool cleaning supply stores. Muratic acid is less expensive and is sold by the gallon. Make sure you try it in an "inconspicuous place" first and dilute it prior to use. It will probably etch the stone surface and leave a white chalking/residue but this should wash off and provide a nice clean surface. Whatever you do - do not get this stuff in your eyes.
Chris
2013-01-08DON BURTS: Earl,
I haven't used it on travertine, but used it on ceramic swimming pool tile. Spray it on, let it foam, brush if necessary, rinse, then repeat until it doesn't foam. Rinse well and neutralize with baking soda. Since the grout is softer, be sure to work fairly fast and rinse well. Good luck!
2012-12-29A shopper asked: what size boat will a quart clean?
+Expand Answers
2013-01-02STEPHEN CONDER: I used this on a 20ft runabout... about a 1/3 of the bottle is left over.
2012-12-17A shopper asked: Can this product be used on stainless steel?
2012-10-03A shopper asked: will it harm a galvinized boat trailer ?
+Expand Answers
2012-10-03DON BURTS: I'm not sure. I actually use it to clean silicates and calcium off of swimming pool tile.
2012-10-04JEFF VAN POUCKE: Protect your trailer with plastic sheeting or a tarp when applying On-Off to the boat hull and everything will be fine. Even if some of the product does contact the trailer, just rinse it off with the hose right away and there will be no harm done.
2012-10-04DANIEL PEDERSEN: it will stain white if you fail to wash it off quickily
2012-10-01A shopper asked: does it work?
+Expand Answers
2012-10-02MICHAEL KENOSH: Works great. Just need to protect yourself as it is acid. This is third year in a row I am using it. Very happy with results
2012-10-02PAT MCFADDEN: Completely. Am pleased with the results.
2012-10-03OLIN FLYNN: Never did try it.
2012-09-26A shopper asked: can this on & off be used on aluminum pontoons?
+Expand Answers
2012-09-28ROBERT KOWALSKI: I wouldn't it is highly corrosive.
2012-09-28EUGENE WILSON: I used it on fiberglass boat hull and it worked great, but a little got on my aluminium trailer and stained it. I would not recommend, but have not used it directly on aluminum before.
2012-09-28BRUCE WORK: The contents are three different types of acid, Hydrochloric, Phosphoric, and Oxalic, so you will probably expect to see some etching of the aluminum. Try it on a small area on the inside of the pontoon where it doesn't show.
I only use on gel coat boat bottom in well ventillated areas.
2012-10-01STEVE MCKINZIE: I have been using On&Of for several years on my 'glass boat, but I don't know that it will do well on aluminum.
2012-08-08A shopper asked: how does this product work? does it involve a lot of scrubbing?
+Expand Answers
2012-08-08LARRY DYER: No scrubing required. Excellent for brown waterline stains. Wipe on wit damp sponge, use rubber gloves and mask, as fumes are nasty
2012-08-08MICHAEL MILES: Excellent product. I spray it on and rinse it off. doesa great job.
2012-08-08DARIO FERREIRA: >>does it involve a lot of scrubbing?
Not at all.
Apply it with a big sponge, and simply wipe off the growth and stains on the hull.
This is basically an acid mixture that attacks any organic growth.
I also use it to remove barnacles from the trim tabs.
Make sure to wear rubber gloves and goggles.
This is great stuff.
2012-08-09PATRICK TRETTS: Hull and bottom cleaner is amazing. Follow the directions and it works great with no scrubbing.
2012-08-09DANIEL LEDUC: HI,
I have used this product for many years to cleanup my boat at the end of the season, my boat stays in the water all summerâ?¦
Very good product. You have just to spread the product on the boat hull, waits for 5 minutes and scrubs with a brush with long hair and water it after thatâ?¦ in my case, I have a boat of 18 feet and I am done in 20 minutesâ?¦ Make sure to clean your boat when there is no wind and wears very old clothes, the stuff can burn your clothesâ?¦

This product really does work as advertised. I will find another product though that has less toxic chemicals. The smell and vapors scared me. The warnings all say not to let this product get into the water supply. Barring a recovery system, that's impossible. This stuff is too scary to use in good conscience.

Comments about Marykate On-Off Hull and Bottom Cleaner:
I have used On-Off to clean the entire hull and fiberglass decks. After long mooring times the hull comes clean with almost no effort. I wipe it on using a brush full strength on a dry hull. Use very small amounts in a pail and dry brush to apply. Let is rest on the hull for a few minutes, not to dry they dip your brush in water and begin to scrub. Add water to keep the area damp. Two or three light strokes and hose it off. Nothing works like On-Off and it's especially great at cleaning tuna blood that has dried on. Excellent for cleaning bilge areas but be careful to keep it off metal, it will remove galvanizing. Most important to use in a very well ventilated area. Not for a careless user.

Comments about Marykate On-Off Hull and Bottom Cleaner:
My boat is a 1984 FourWinns(hull color is beige). It is used on a man-made lake in Pa. Every year when it's time to pull her out of the water for the season the hull is the color of dark roast coffee(blackish-brown). Last year when I stored my boat without the usual in-depth winterizing and cleaning I dreaded the spring clean up. This product saved me a week of hard work. Within seconds the hull was clean where ever the product was applied.ON-Off is one AMAZING product.

I sprayed this stuff on the bottom of my runabout and that dried on green film that just won't come off literally melted away even before I finished spraying. I then took a long handled soft brush and just washed it around and then rinsed and the bottom was clean as new. This may be the best product I have ever used as far as doing what it says it will do. READ AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS, WEAR GLOVES AND DON'T GET IT ON YOUR SKIN. THIS STUFF IS SERIOUSLY STRONG.

Comments about Marykate On-Off Hull and Bottom Cleaner:
I've used On- Off for many years on my fiberglass/gel coat boat. I'm in staining fresh waters in the Midwest. I wipe my boat down after every use, but staining is still inevitable. I use On-Off to remove this stain once or twice a year. Handle the product with care as directed. I simply sponge it on and rinse immediately. The staining is removed instantly. This must be followed up with a good protective coating, I wax.
