Rule-Mate automatic pumps are available in 500, 750, 1100, 1500 and 2000 gph (gallons-per-hour) capacities. These quiet and compact bilge pumps activate when the water level is 2-1/8".
The pump and solid state water sensing switch are in a single, compact housing. The sophisticated switch senses the dielectric properties of water but will not pump oil. Unlike standard computerized automatic pumps, there's no on/off cycling so no power is used until the pump comes on. A detachable strainer makes clearing debris quick and easy with easy access to the impeller area.

Questions & Answers about Rule-Mate Automatic Bilge Pumps:
2013-03-15ALAN BARTER asked: is a Rule-Mate 500 GPH suitable in each hull of a 9 meter catamaran skiboat as primary bilge pump(s)?
+Expand Answers
2013-03-16BRIAN LAVIGNE: My guess would be sure, because I only have one of them in an 18' V-bottom boat. So two of them would give you twice as much pumping power in a boat roughly 1.5 the size of mine. So that would mean more overall pumping power per foot than I have, and mine works fine, is never strained.
2013-03-20MATTHEW HINMAN: For bilge water yes, emergency pump I'd go much better. Have a 1700gph bilge pump and 4000 backup in my 22 center console boat
2012-10-26HAL H asked: Does the RM1100 bilge pump include the epoxy and materials to mount it to the hull? HP
+Expand Answers
2012-10-26LINDA CROWN: No. It has holes in the bottom to screw it down.
2012-10-26FRANK FRENDO: Hello Hal, pump includes screws , but no epoxy , had it for 2 years never missed a beat
2012-09-21DAWN TIFT asked: Hi, I just installed my new Rule Mate 1100 and I can not get the pump to stop. I trined the red, hold down for 5 seconds button, to initialize the start, it pumps well but will not shut off. Any ideas?
+Expand Answers
2012-09-28CHAD MC RORY: Is wiring correct? Sounds like you better call Rule and get another pump. Most of the Rules are fool-proof.
2012-09-28JAMES RICHTER: i can t get mine to shut off either. I plan to install a float switch
2012-09-28LISA ANDRUS: You should have a 3 position switch. On/off/on. Manual on , off, automatic on. If the 2 hot wires are crossed it may stay on. Automatic works when the float rises. Float could be stuck
2012-09-18RIVH V asked: how do you wire the rm750 bilge pump? There were no instructions withb the pump
+Expand Answers
2012-09-18JAMES WITHERSPOON: Can't give an answer until after October 5, but soon thereafter.
2012-08-30A shopper asked: Why is a check valve not recommended in the installation instructions for my Rule1100?
2012-06-28A shopper asked: do you have to use a fuse on the wire going tom the battery?.
+Expand Answers
2012-06-29RUSS SCIOLINO: A fuse is for protection. Electrical standards require this. Remember if your bilge seizes up,or gets filled up with trash it will overheat and draw an excess of current. at that point it has stopped working. A fuse will simply disconnect the electric from the pump so you boat does not catch on fire.
2012-07-07CURT EHLER: No I don't.
2012-07-08BRIAN LAVIGNE: Yes, that is my understanding.
2012-06-26A shopper asked: I have a 1985 MasterCraft Prostar 190 and the wires from the existing bilge go under the floor and are wire tied to wiring harnesses I only have acess to about 12 inches of the wiring thru a 8" diameter access hole in the floor of the boat. Do I cut the wires and wire in to the new pump?
+Expand Answers
2012-06-27CHRIS SWIFT: That is what I did since the wires to the old pump were still good.
2012-06-27MATTHEW MESNICK: There is nothing wrong with adding the new wiring to the wires that came from the old pump. Just make sure they are in good shape (not damaged or corroded). After you are done, just fold back any excess wire from the pump and secure
2012-05-27A shopper asked: What are the dimensions of the RM 500?
+Expand Answers
2012-05-30JEFF KERR: I don't have the dimensions because it malfunctioned and I recently replaced it with a different brand. The float on the Rule brand isn't mechanical, it's electric. I had it for about a year and the float function quit working. My boat almost sunk because of it. My suggestion is buy a different brand with a mechanical float.
2012-05-30RICHARD MCCLEERY: If I remember right it is about 3" wide, 4" high and 6" long.
2012-05-27ROD MACLEOD asked: When my rule mate 500 empties the boat it still carries on running and I have to disconnect battery for it to stop, It worked ok the first 2 or 3 times but now wont stop. Would it help if I put more weight in bow of boat as pump does not sit exactly level? Any suggestions please.
+Expand Answers
2012-06-06CHESTER KROEGER: Rod, as a rule (no pun intended) all bilge pumps or float switches MUST be level and at the lowest possible location in the hull of the boat. Sometimes switches can function less effectively however due to small particles of debris that clog them or impede the float switches from working properly. I would check this first. Good Luck.
Chester
2012-06-07Rod Macleod: Thanks Chester, I appreciate your reply and I will try a bit of extra weight in bow and give pump a good clean out as it is sitting in debris from lifting lobster pots etc. Cheers pal.
Rod
2012-06-09STEPHEN KAZMIERSKI: Take the pump apart and clean the float... it's not dropping back down to shut off the pump.
2012-05-21A shopper asked: how to wire this type of pump?
+Expand Answers
2012-05-24ANDREW GLANZ: Sorry I cant be more helpful but I had a friend who is an electrician do all of the wiring for me on the boat.
I did set up a switch on the dash board so I can manually run the pump as a backup to the auto. feature. Unfortunately, the way my boat sits in the water causes water to collect in the center/front so the auto bilge does not engage.
I suggest having the proper weight in the rear of the boat so water collects in the stern.
2012-05-24WALT LOUKOTA: you did not get the diagram w/ the pump? ( check Rule-industries web site for a diagram)
all connections have to be above the highest possible water level
black is neg seal all connections to prevent corrosion
16 ga. up to 25 feet from bat. 14 ga. for more than 25 feet.
brown (12v pos) goes to fuse for auto pump actuation
b/w goes to manual switch terminal, other terminal on sw.goes to fuse same as auto brown connection
fuse size RM1500 9 amps
RM2000 15 amps
RM2000-24(24 volt) 7.5amps
2012-05-25LLOYD HAYES: The unit has 2 Hot wires and 1 Ground wire per instructions. One positive wire goes to a switch for continuous running. You supply the switch. Turn the switch on and it runs. Turn it off and it stops. The other hot wire goes to a positive continuous 12 volt source for automatic operation using the internal float for a switch. The internal float appears to be a magnetic switch with no connections. It floats freely up with water and turns the pump on when the float rises to the top of the pump. It shuts off when it drops to the bottom of the pump.
On my boat, the pump simply sits in the bottom of my bilge. However, the base has screw eyelets for securing the pump.
Comments about Rule Industries Rule-Mate Automatic Bilge Pumps:
it doesn't shut off automatically; runs batteries dead. Have to disconnect power to get it to stop pumping after water is empty from boat.

Pump will not shut off after pumping wat

Comments about Rule Industries Rule-Mate Automatic Bilge Pumps:
I liked this unit initially. IT was easy to install and seemed like it would solve the problems with mechanical float switches. However, after one year, the pump would not shut off after pumping and would then drain battery. Found out this was a very commong problem with the solid state float switch. Apparently mfg knows of problem but will not honor warranty.

Comments about Rule Industries Rule-Mate Automatic Bilge Pumps:
I put two of these on my boat and eliminated the older pumps I had with the flimsy old-school float switches. A simple two wire hookup is all it takes. Anyone can install these.
They only come on when the water reaches a certain height, not every 2.5 minutes like other pumps that can drain the battery. I also have them connected to a switch at the dash in case I want to use them manually.
