Questions & Answers about Battery Switch - Standard:
2013-03-10DOUG BROOKS asked: I have an RV with 4-12 volt batteries. I want to tie two batteries together to increase my amp hours and have each pair of batteries on a separate selector switch #. Will this switch work to separate each pair of batteries and can I switch it to all for maximum amp hours if desired?

2013-04-23MICHAEL TAYLOR: Yes, you can
2013-04-26PAUL LEBEL: I'm the wrong person to ask. I've heard they are excellent but haven't installed mine yet.
2012-12-18A shopper asked: do both batteries charge when the switch is on 1 or 2 or does it have to be on "all" to charge both batteries?
2012-06-12A shopper asked: What is the difference between an onboard charging system( the ones in magzines that are 150-200 dollars) and just buying a perko swith and leaving it on "all" while you are riding and keep the batteries charged?

2012-07-16RICHARD RAMSEY: Nothing except the 150 200 chargers are working to charge batteries when the boat circuit is off and engines not running
2012-04-30A shopper asked: How do I wire this switch for 2 batteries??? I got it with a boat I bought but it only has one battery..
Thanks

2012-05-07JAMES FEATHERSTONE: This switch is designed for 2 batteries. It has a common ground for both batteries, and a pole for each positive. Switching to "1" or "2" comples the stated connection - or you can run both at the same time.
2012-05-14JESTIN ALLEN: First run your main power wire to the common. Then ground your 1 battery n put the power wire on side 1. Last ground your 2 battery n put the power wire on side 2.
2012-03-18ROBERT ROBERTSON asked: how to wire two battires off this switch i have this switch but no diagram ?

2012-05-08STEVEN LEFLER: If you have 2 batteries and one engine you will have the following options:
Disconnect both batteries,
Select battery number 1,
Select battery number 2,
Select both batteries at the same time.
Wire the Positive of battery 1 to terminal 1 on the switch.
Wire the Positive of battery 2 to terminal 2 on the switch.
Wire the "COM (Common)" terminal of the switch to the load (engine starter, electronics, etc.).
Ground the negative terminals of both batteries to the chassis. The load (engine, electronics, etc.) should already be grounded to the chassis.
OR
Connect the load negative load lead and both battery negative leads together.
2012-02-04A shopper asked: I bought an older boat and it had this perko switch connected to two batteries.
When should it be switched from 1,2 to "all" and why?
Thanks

2012-02-07JAMES FEATHERSTONE: One is a primary, the other a backup. "All" is used if you want both batteries powering your system.
2012-02-16KENN LUDWIG: Gary,
The switch allows you to seperate your house battery (lights, water pump, radio, etc) from your engine cranking battery. I use battery 2 as my house battery and 1 as my cranking battery. When sailing and the motor isn't running I'll keep the switch on 2 to conserve battery 1 (switching to 1 when ready to start the engine). The ALL position ties the two batteries together if both are low on amps- this might provide you enough cranking amps to start your engine when both batteries are low. Keep in mind to not switch battery positions when the motor is running- this could cause a spike. Only switch positions with the engine off.
2012-03-31STEVEN LEFLER: I call my main battery (starts the engine and runs lights, etc.) my "#1" battery.
I call the big battery that operates my two trolling motors my "#2" battery."
I normally select "1" then go fishing.
If the #1 battery should get weak (from using the radio and depth finders all day) I simply select "2" to start the engine.
If both batteries are weak I select "all" and let both batteries start the engine.
When 1 is selected and the engine is running, it charges the #1 battery and when the #2 is selected and the engine running it charges the #2 battery.
When no motors, lights, or accessories are in use I set the switch to "off".
Even if I leave an accessory turned on there will be no battery drain.
2011-12-13SEAN GREEN asked: how do you install?
+Expand Answers
2011-12-30JOHN ENTNER: Hi Sean. This switch should be installed in a handy location yet protected, and close to the batteries and point of use. The four screw holes will hold it securely to a panel with access to the back. Mark and drill the four little holes, then make a bigger hole where the center of the switch will be sufficient for the three wires that will attach to the posts on the back of the switch. Run your wires, one from Batt.#1, one from Batt.#2, and the third to whatever needs the power. Starter, circuit panel, winch, etc. Secure the switch to the panel with four screws, washers, lock washers, and nuts.
The size, length, type, and gauge of wire and terminals is another question.
2012-01-02BRADLEY WEST: sean, run one positive cable from each battery to the posts marked 1 and 2. the other is for the main wire to the starter on the boat. if you select battery1 only that battery will be used and charged. if you select #2 same thing. if you select both both batteries will be used and charged. never switch while the engine is running.
2011-11-27A shopper asked: what size are the srew holes??
2011-11-03JEFF NEAL asked: Will this battery switch work on my hummer, I have 2 batteries so if 1battery dies can I switch it to the other one?
2011-10-21A shopper asked: i have a perko switch and not sure how it works. i have a main battery with 2 others hooked up for my 24 volt trolling motor. if i have the perko switch on setting 1, will it charge my 2 trolling motor batteries? or do i need to switch it to the all setting?
I had a boat sink in salt water and every electronic device with voltage on it was ruined. Devices with no power were rinsed and dried then re-used. With this switch not only can I remove all power when the boat is not in use but I can use the main battery or my trolling battery or both batteries to start the boat engine. I also bypass the switch for several accessories by using relays (activated by the Perko output) to isolate the power.
