APPLICATION AND USE
Preparation Protect floor or work area with a plastic tarp to catch run-off.
Method With a natural bristle brush, apply a liberal coat of Interstrip Semi-Paste over paint in an area no larger than 10 square feet at one time. Allow the Interstrip Semi-Paste to stand until all layers of existing paint are penetrated. This will vary from as little as 15 minutes for one layer to as long as 2 hours for several coats depending on temperature. Begin scraping. If the paint does not come off easily, reapply and increase the waiting time. After the surface is thoroughly scraped clean, apply Interstrip Liquid Stripper 399 to remove any residual paint or wipe the surface with a rag or pad soaked with Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202.

Questions & Answers about Interlux Fiberglass Paint Remover Paste Stripper:
2013-04-30A shopper asked: What do you recommend for removing old varnish drips from fiberglass hull and in non-skid?
+Expand Answers
2013-05-24Joe kiehm: Believe it or not, I would use a sharp metal puddy knife. But that's just the way I do things. It depends on what looks worse. You may get some scraping but that can be touched up. I don't know of a material that will soften the varnish and not harm the hull accept and Interlux solvent I used to take adhesive off the hull after changing the name. Worked great and did not harm the gelcoat. In fact, it got rid of some drip lines I could not remove with anything else
2011-12-15GARY HENKELMANN asked: Will interstrip attack interprotect2000?
+Expand Answers
2011-12-15Joe kiehm: I'm sorry Gary, I can't remember what I purchased it for. What is the application or project you are working on? BTW, this is the first time I've been called on thru this format. I really like it. Perhaps I can use it in the future. I never knew it existed. Do you know much about inboard engines on sailboats, because I'd have a couple questions for you?
Sincerely,
Joe
2011-12-15gary Henkelmann: Joe:
I want to rtemove the bottom paint on my 25' Cape Dory and put VC-17 on it, but I saw, through an earlier attempt at removing the old Bottomcote, that the bottom had been treated with Interprotect 2000 (2 part epoxy), which I would not want to remove or damage.
As for inboards, I was unable to breathe life back into my starved-out 27 HP Yanmar in the middle of a glass-like Lake Michigan last summer. Add to this an earlier episode of filling the (diesel) fuel tank with gasoline on my prior boat's inaugural voyage, and you'll probably want to seek relaible advice elsewhere for engine questions.
But, what the heck, give it a shot if you feel lucky.
Regards,
Gary
2011-12-16Joe kiehm: Gary, I can't see the left side of this page so I'm typing over here. I I t hink Interlux just came out with a new VC 17 that you can put over just about anything. You may have to either apply something or sand a little first just to ruff it up but then you can paint right over whatever you have Try pr pressure washing the bottom and go to town with the VC17 I'm getting getting very frustrated with this. I hope you can read it and it helps.
good luck,
Joe
2011-12-16gary Henkelmann: I hadn't heard about the new product, but will look for it. Thanks for the tip. Re:the "window" problem, maybe you can stretch it at the border, or drag it with the header bar to get to the whole window?
Regards,
Gary
2011-12-16Joe kiehm: Now I have the whole window. I tried dragging it last nite but it wouldn't drag. Anyhow, yea, research the "new" VC 17 and give your hull a good strong pressure wash. That should take off what you've got on without sanding and still provide a good surface for the VC 17. That's what I would do. However, I would get a second opinion because I'm the "path of least resistance" type of guy.
Nice talking to you,
Joe
2011-12-30DOUGLAS WOHLBERG: I don't know, I haven't tried that.
Comments about Interlux Fiberglass Paint Remover Paste Stripper:
I used this product exactly as recommended on the product label and it was no more than applying water. I carried it to a professional paint & body person. He used it as well and agreed that it is was worthless.

Absolutely does not do a thing. Stuff from [...] worked better. I would try the ready strip marine next time.

Comments about Interlux Fiberglass Paint Remover Paste Stripper:
Be careful when using this product. I purchased this to remove a painted on name from my transom. I tested a small area without any issue. After applying it to a larger area, pieces of my gel coat started falling off.
