Teak Handrails / handholds are perfect for holding on to next to stairs, ladders or anywhere else you might need a little help staying upright. Made by Whitecap, these teak hand rails come prebuilt to a certain size. Currently, we have 2 sizes of teak hand holds available, each has a specific size and a number of loops (areas between the mounting wood where your hand fits). The sizes have rails 2 or 6 loops and measure 33 or 63 inches in total length. Handrails are not pre-drilled.

2012-06-19PATRICIA W. FRANTZ: The ones we ordered are about an inch.
2012-06-19JAMES FITZGERALD: I want to say about 3/4 inch. I installed them on my boat so I do not have them handy. Very well made and easy to finish.
2012-06-19MICHAEL CONLON: I would say they're a good five quarters thick.
2012-06-20NANCY WEST: about one inch at top & bottom, & a bit tapered in the middle - nancy
2012-06-22JOHN BLAKLEY: The rails I received are 1 1/16" thick.

2011-09-19ERIC POMBER: Jim,
I recently installed these hand rails on my boat. When I did it I through bolted them. To do this I pre drilled the holes in the rails on a drill press so they would be strait. Then I dry fitted them to the cabin top. Then I removed them and drilled oversized holes in the outer layer of glass and the core but not the inner layer of glass. I filled the holes with thickened epoxy to seal the core form any water intrusion. Then I redrilled the holes and reinstalled the rails with lots of sealant. Most C&C's have balsa cored decks so this is a very important step. I hope this helps with your installation.
Eric
2011-09-19Jim McLean: Thanks, but I am looking for a source for hand rails 110" with 9 loops. Jim
2011-09-20WALTER MURPHY: Jim-
Have the same boat- unless you want custom rails made we had no luck matching, and we looked for a long time. We ended up removing the old rails and patching/gelcoating the holes- we used four six loop 63" for the main cabin, two on the outside and two on the inside, matching the deck rails with the rail on the cabin ceiling in roughly the same position as the original rails, and placing the 4 loop 43" rail on the forward deck, with a small space in between the rail ends. The forward rail does not have an inner rail to connect to on the C&C, just lag screws. To bend the rails to match the shear, take the original rails, run a line from end to end (or 63" along the rail to match the new rail length), and measure the distance from the midpoint of the rail to this line, and you have the necessary offset. Cut a scrap block of wood twice this distance. Take two replacement rails side by side, tie one end together, place the spacer block at the midpoint, and lash the other end of the rails with line and some bending tension to start the bending process. Drop the rails overboard to soak in salt water to soak for a day or two at a time, check occaisionally, and tighten the end lines as necessary until the ends touch to complete the bending process. The rails will develop a passive bend soaking in the salt water to match the shear- Good luck- Walt

That sounds like a great way to do it. If I am able, I will let you know. Jim
2011-09-20BRAD GODWIN: Just purchased 2 53" sft teak handholds quality very nice. I used 2 53" to span 110" looks great
2011-10-14GLENN HIPP: It might be hard to find an exact replacement. I filled in the old mounting holes w/ epoxy and then created new mounting holes to accomodate the new rails. I have bben pleased with the quality and fit of these rails.
2011-10-17Jim McLean: Thanks for the help. I think thats what I'll do. Jim
Comments about Jamestown Distributors Teak Handholds:
The AFI hand rails can be used in several boat applications. I have rails mounted on the cabin top of my sailboat as well as in three spots inside the cabin. They are strong and attractive. Be aware that you must drill the mounting holes and plug if desired. Matching existing mounting holes can be a challenge but it is doable. The teak handrails are a good safety addition.
