I purchased: FILE HANDLE 4-1/2 X 1-3/16". Any standard handle will probably fit.

2013-03-24JOHN LEMON: A 10" mill file takes an "E" size handle made by Nicholson.
There is a table on the back of the package that lists handle sizes and the files they fit.

2011-11-04RANDY ALLEN: Yes, a mill bastard file would be good for sharpening a shovel. It is the most common and useful type of file available. Don't get too large a file, an 8 or 10" should be fine, preferably attached to a wooden handle (also in the catalogue). Nicholson files are the best brand, just take care of it!
2011-11-28RICHARD GARD: yes, it will do the job nicely. I have one and use it for sharpening mower blades, hoes, and hedge trimmers (manual). No reason it could not handle a shovel.
