2011-12-05BRAD LANE: I believe it is stainless steel or a heavily plated SS. It was the perfect answer to my particular problem. I had looked a great many places before I purchased these hinges and was extremely happy with them . I received many compliments on the hinges

2011-12-10RODOLFO SILVA: I bought this item in SS, because my boat had all the hinges in SS.

2011-10-19BRUCE KACHLINE asked: Any ideas on the thickness and width of wood to use with these hatch hinges?
A photo of the proper installation would be great.

2011-10-19GREG FARLEY: Bruce, I used the hinges on 6' wide seat on the stern of my boat they hold the back of the seat which I made out 3/4" plywood and encapsulated in resin with a thin layer of cloth, covered with three inch foam and then vinyl upholstery. They have held up great and get used on every outing. I used stainless steel screws #10's and have not needing re-tightening. I just made sure they went all the way thru. The unit is probably heavier than a regular hatch cover. The only complaint if any is make sure the pins that hold the hinges together is a good grade of stainless steel. I am in a salt environment and they started showing signs of rust. NOt the hinges just the pins where they pivot. Hope this helps Thanks Greg
2011-10-19Bruce Kachline: Hi Greg,
Thanks for the speedy reply.
I'm trying to build a "shoe box" style hatch and cover for the James Wharram Tiki-21 I'm building.
Clearance between the frame and the lid are contingent on the radius of the hinge and the thickness of the mahogany I use. I'm going to cut and try to make it fit before I epoxy the whole thing together.
I'm behind schedule and over budget...... but I'm having a lot of fun.
Again,
Thanks for your help.

2011-10-26ROBERT SMITH: I used 3/4" marine plywood. It seems to me that the width would be that required to cover the hatch exterior.
2011-10-27Bruce Kachline: Thanks Robert,
I'm thinking 3/4" also, but might use mahogany for the frame.
