2013-02-20CARL TUERK: i am not sure what you mean by a quick change adapter, but the countersinks come with correctly sized drill bits so that all you do is place them in whatever drill you intend to use without changing anything as it comes from the box.
2013-02-20Bill S: Mike, I have not found a quick change adapter, but have roughed up the shaft of the bits a little so they hold more secure in my hand tightened chucks on my portable drills. They tended to spin loose in harder woods without the benefit of a key tightened chuck.
2013-02-20MICHAEL EVERETT: I really liked this kit but used it for very basic work. I am not familiar with the adapter you're asking about but it's not hard to set them up and insert into a drill press. Good luck with your decision.

2012-04-02JONATHAN MARGOLIS: It should work. I used the set in refastening my Rozinante, and it worked well. You will need to be careful in how far you drill the counterbore--it needs to be deep enough to set the bung, but no so deep as to weaken the plank unnecessarily. Some people may not agree to using a single tool in a single pass for this. I have experienced screw holes where the counterbore was set at an angle, whether intentionally or accidentally because a separate countersink was used I can't say. But I think I've read about builders who like the idea of having the fastening at an angle to the counterbore so that the screw is not going to back out. It also makes it almost impossible to get the screw out for refastening, however, so I am very much of the opinion that boring in one operation, though carefully, is the way to go. Good luck.

2012-04-03BEN BROTMAN: Hi Steve, yes you will be able to pre-drill tapered holes and countersink a hole at the same time that will fit a wood plug. I have not used the stop collar but i imagine that is how it could be used. good luck, Ben
2012-04-03STEVEN RICE: Yes. The key is to select the right size countersink matched with the correct drill bit size. You can set the stop collar to most any preset depths. Sometimes, I have found that I am better off re-drilling the hole in the first plank to the screw size. This way, you don't have to worry about not fully snugging the plank to the frame because the screw has locked up in the first plank. Just be careful not to re-drill clear through the first plank into the second plank or frame!
2012-04-10SIMON BOUGHTON: I haven't used this tool for the purpose you describe, but yes: The bits are tapered and will drill for both pieces and the counterbore is adjustable. There's no reason you can't drill frame, plank, and plug bore in one pass.

Although the item title is Countersinks, it should be Tapered Countersink like all other hardware resellers. I missed the word taper in the description. If you want a set of tapered countersinks, these are very good.

I called and had one defective drill bit (C14) that snapped. Looked like a bad casting. Called last Wednesday and asked to have another sent out right away. Still have not received it. As discussed I am sending the broken bit back tomorrow when I get back in the shop. Please send the replacement ASAP so we can continue without having to go out and purchase another.

I have a rechargeable Dewalt Drill and 1/4" Driver Combo set. I have the Countersink drill in the chuck and the tip for the screw in the other. It makes a tedious job so much easier. This set is one of the things you will pull out of your tool box when a friends comes over and say "Hey look at these".

I worked with a finish carpenter who had a set of these and he recommended them wholeheartedly. At first I was surprised at the cost, but JD had the best price of anyone and I couldn't be happier. These bits cut like champs and the ability to pre-drill for the screw, countersink, and set the depth of the countersink all at once is almost priceless. The plug cutters are excellent also! And the best part is they are made right here in the U.S. If you want a serious set of countersinks these are it!

This is the third set of these I've bought, and have bought numerous bits as well. First set was in a cardboard box, the most recent set is to replace that one. I keep one set in the shop, one on the boat ( 65' shrimp trawler ). Very good tools, American made, well worth the price.
