Questions & Answers about Bronze Angle Plate Oarlock Socket:
2012-02-12A shopper asked: what size screws do we use to mont these sockets ?

2012-02-13MARK SEGRAVES: I used size #10 flat-head silicon bronze screws, 1.5" long. You should have at least 1.5" length for 3 vertical screws. Horizontal length will depend upon thickness of your gunwales. You can always cut the 1.5" screws shorter to fit.
2012-02-13RICHARD LATTIMER: I used #10, 1-1/4" silicon bronze. The screw heads fit well in the holes of the oarlock sockets. Of course, length would depend upon the thickness of the material into which you're mounting them.
2012-02-13BJORN THAFVELIN: Hi
I did buy some bronze screws from you as well at the same time There §was some recomendation for size, somewhere but 1/4 diameter counter sunk head or flat is more a question of tast.
Look at my records from 2010 or was it 2009. I still have some screw left.
Hope It helped
- An advise is to grind an polish the surface really well they will come out very nice, the same is for the oarlocks.
You can look at may home page the swedish edition on"material" there I have them on my Rangeley lakeboats. Perhaps you like some of the pictures.
www.batbyggeriet.eu the english side is not as detailed as the swedish.

2012-02-13ROLF ETHUN: I used oval slot head brass #8 1 1.2 inch wood screws.
2012-02-14DAN MCCORMACK: I used #8 by 1" bonze screws.
2012-02-14walter bailey: A #6 screw can be used with no protruding head.
#8 screw head sits flush with 2 of the holes, but I had to further countersink
the other holes to get the screws to sit flush (or recessed a little).
2012-02-14ROBERT DAVIS: Look at what you are attaching the oar lock too. I used #8x1 1/4 screws as the gunnel permitted this thickness witthout penetration accross it. If it were thinner, I would use #8x1 inch screws. Predrill holes for screws with a 1/8 bit to avoid breakage of brass screws. If you have steel screws of the same size and thread, pass them first to cut the thread in the hardwood of the gunnel, then use the brass screws in their tract. As I remount the oar locks frequently in my guide boat going from solo use at mid ship to double use with the rower in the bow. To avoid stripping the threads, I harden the established threads with a few drops of crazy glue once the screws are out and take care to manually start the screws in the same track to avoid cutting new threads and stripping them.
Comments about Buck Algonquin Bronze Angle Plate Oarlock Socket:
Hven't used yet. For a cedar strip boat I am making. Probably would give a 5 after I use them.

Comments about Buck Algonquin Bronze Angle Plate Oarlock Socket:
Buck Algonquin hardware is made from good quality bronze and is machined to fit their brand. It is always a good idea to use sockets and oarlocks from the same manufacturer. Of course, you should never mix metals.
