2013-03-18DONALD LEE asked: I would like to use an 18 inch diameter Round vinyl buoy to hold up an anchor rope in a river with a 8 mile an hour current. I fish for sturgeon and must detach the anchor when fighting a large fish. I use 100 ft of 1/2 inch anchor rope attached to an anchor in 50 foot of water. I need a quick disconnect system in order to follow the fish without loosing the anchor and rope. What diameter buoy do I need?

2013-03-21JERRY SHEPHERD: I believe that should work just fine for you. I bought mine to use as a fender which is attached to the slip and not the boat. It's always there and I do not have to deploy fenders prior to docking.

Thanks for the reply. Is your slip in a river current? I am concerned that the heavy current in the river, with possible debris accumulation, pulling the buoy under water while I am playing a fish.

2013-03-22JERRY SHEPHERD: I don't have any experience on river, mooring or anchoring, and am on a lake where the largest mooring buoy is 24 inches and they are suspending chain. I would think if there is that much debris being swept down the river you will have a problem with any type of flotation device. You could try two floats tied 20 to 30 feet apart and gamble that one of them would stay visible.

2012-05-08MICHAEL AUNE: Acetone makes quick work of it... takes off a monolayer of the rubber, but leaves like new. Wash with soap and lots of water afterwards.
2012-05-08DAVID NIZEN: We've had good success with a stiff nylon bristle brush and either a marine-safe cleaner (Spray Nine) if the buoy is in the water or a generic cleaner like Formula 409 if you've taken it out.
2012-05-08CLAY VIEMEISTER: Use spray Roll Off with water. Let Roll off sink in. Apply elbow grease. Wash off with hose.Done.

2012-03-06RAY JENNE: There is an inflate port near the handle (Anchor Ring). Unscrew the plug with a screw driver then add air with a normal conmpressor supported air hose or using a bicycle pump. That "inflate port" is made with a one way valve that allows the air to be pumped in but does not allow the air to come back out. When you have the buoy inflated to the prscribed pressure, replace the screw in plug you removed initially and your set to go. Easy and covenient. Do not over inflate.
2012-03-06FRANK SMITH: You will need a large philips screw driver to open the valve. Then insert an inflation needle similar to those to inflate a football or basketball. Pump to desired inflation, remove needle, then reclose the valve with the philips screwdriver.
2012-03-06MICHAEL BROOKINS: Hello,
I purchased these Buoys from Jamestown last year. They are very easy to inflate with a air compressor and a pin used to inflate footballs, basketballs etc.... Don't forget to moisten the pin before you insert it into the valve. To deflate you unscrew the fitting with a phillips head screwdriver.

2012-03-06EDGARD QUINONES: The bouys need to be inflated utlizing a needle, same as the one use to inflate basketball, volleyball or soceer balls. You place the needle thru the top nipple while using a little of oil to lubricate positioning of needle. Air pressure can come from an air compressor on a gas station or garage, also a bicycle tire inflator could be use. The buoy should not be inflate to maximum pressure or until very hard; you should leave it somehow fluffy to allow to absorb the pressure when too mcuh cushioning happens.

2012-02-06ROBERT DULA: I wish I had an answer for you. I use my buoy to moor my Venetian gondola in the lake. Am pretty sure there is a big difference between a gondola and a 43' boat. nola gondola
2012-02-06PETER CLANCY: I suggest using two 18" or 21" round buoys to fend off other boats especially with wave action and/or strong wind.
2012-02-06PETER DENONCOURT: I have a 35' sailboat and I have found that the 15" size works very well. Of course, I have to use at least 2, sometimes 3 between boats of similar size.
