MultiMaster Saw Blades are available in four basic designs; flat, recessed (or flush-cut), segmented (with a flat spot), or a combination recessed/segmented. They are available in regular steel for softer woods and plastic, or High Speed Steel (HSS) for cutting wood, sheet metal, and plastic. Fein blades cut by oscillation. Only a few teeth do the cutting at one time. If a blade section wears, simply turn the blade to expose unused teeth to the cutting area.
2011-11-13DOUGLAS WALLING asked: My Fein saw blades have a round center hole, because they are older models.
By looking at the add , it seems that the new HSS Flush cut saw blade has a star cut pattern for the center hole.
Can I use this new design saw blade in my older Fein tool ?
Do I need an adaptor to use this new style hole - blade ?

2011-11-15PAUL FLEMING: I'm trying to remember when I bought my Multimaster and I think it was about 8 to 10 years ago. Your multimaster must either older than that or was a different model. I know there were 2 models when I bought my multmaster but I don't remember anything about the one I didn't buy. I don't think they have been selling the other model for some time now.
The easiest solution would be to replace the spindle that holds the blade on when it is snapped into place. That part has the star shape and you put the blade on it before closing it down into place with a lever. If the post is the same diameter and length, this part should be replaceable with what you need.
Fein is a good company to work with. I had a problem with mine maintaining speed when it was just over a year old. Even though it was out of warranty they sent a brand new one to me within a week.
Good luck and I hope you find a solution. Jamestown is also good to work with, eh?
2011-11-15Douglas Walling: Hi Paul, T Y for your reply, but I am still perplexed . I purchased my Fein tool circa 1995, and all the saw blades that came with it had round arbor holes not the newer star hole pattern.
I went to Home Depot, Az., trying to purchase a new blade. They didn't have Fein blades, but only Dremel blades, they did have an adaptor to put on the arbor, so that I could use Dremel blades on my Fein tool.
So this raises the question, are the Dremel star pattern blades identical to the star pattern Fein saw blades ?
A few years ago the electric dial speed switch quit working, so I had to order a new switch, after installing it , the tool worked as it did when new.
I too like Jamestown Distributors, and have purchased many products from them, to use on my sailboat, currently berthed Singapore.
My next thought is to go to Fein tool website and see what they are selling , today.
Again T Y for your reply , Douglas , BCC Calliste .
