Use the 8511 for solids such as those from processing minerals, coal, iron ore, flour, and certain other substances. Liquid non-oil based particles from sprays that do not also emit harmful vapors.
Do Not Use for, Gases, vapors, including those present in paint spray operations, oil aerosols, asbestos, lead, arsenic, cadmium, methylenedianiline, or sandblasting. Aerosol concentrations that exceed 10 times the OSHA PEL or applicable regulations, whichever is lower. This respirator does not supply oxygen.

2012-06-04LESTER RUTH: I use these for sawdust, and sometimes blow them out, from the inside, with a small-orifice "air-gun" at about 100 psi, which works pretty well. Be mindful of what you are removing, however, and where it's going, and do ANY air blasting with care! I doubt they would respond to washing in any satisfactory manner. lester
Great to use while sanding wood and non-metal items; not for painting or hazmat use. The seal tends to fail in high moisture conditions over time but the product is inexpensive enough to replace as needed.

compaired to other filters this one fit my needs and works well with two head bands. I use it with blowing dustout of the shop, sanding, and sawing. Outside of boat work also great sanding drywall. Would hightly recommend this product.
