Maptech ChartKits are full-color reproductions of U.S. government and private charts published for popular cruising regions. The convenient-sized, spiral bound books are large enough to allow for manual plotting, yet small enough to fit on your nav-station or lap. ChartKits are economical and can save up to 90% of the cost to purchase individual paper charts.
Most ChartKits measure 12" W x 19" H when closed. Typical individual charts measure 22" x 17". The chartbooks are packaged in a vinyl envelope. The versions shipping are the most up-to-date ones Maptech offers. ChartKits include a Free Companion CD.

New features make ChartKits easy to use with your GPS. Most charts include one-minute latitude/longitude grids to make vessel positioning a breeze, and major navigation aids are identified with named GPS waypoints.
ChartKits include small-scale, wide area charts as well as large-scale, detailed charts of harbors and approaches. Navigation editors add magnetic courses between major navigation aids with distances in nautical miles. ChartKits are also designed to help you do the calculations yourself. Each page includes a Compass Rose with annual increase in variation and complete scale information.
Chartbook Companion CDs include "Offshore Navigator Lite" navigation software. Click your mouse to put a waypoint on a chart. Click again, and you're creating a route. It's that easy. Distances, bearings and GPS positions are calculated and displayed instantly. Print your own customized GPS waypoints, route plans and chart segments on color or black and white printers.
Connect a GPS to your laptop and see your real-time position on the computer screen. Real-time positioning requires connecting an industry-standard NMEA 0183 GPS to your PC

Comments about Maptech ChartKit with Companion CD:
Covers a wide area and my entire crusing area. Great back-up for chartplotter when electronics fail. I only wish it had better close-ups of some harbor areas.

GPS and electronics are grand. But, when all else fails, everyone looks at the navigator and there is only one acceptable response - "I know where we are and how to get there from here."

Comments about Maptech ChartKit with Companion CD:
Very good medium to large area charts for coast wise navigation. Does not have many detailed charts for harbors and complicated areas (or I should be wearing glasses). The book is physicaly too big for me as I navigate with a chart book or folded chart on our little lobster-yacht companion way hatch next to the Raymarine chart plotter. This would be great if you use a real nav station.

Comments about Maptech ChartKit with Companion CD:
I have Coastal Explorer on my laptop, a 12" chartplotter at the helm and I would never set sail without my Chartkit in the cockpit. It is the best way to scope out an area and identify landmarks, even if you use your chartplotter or computer to plot your course. The actual charts are cumbersome to keep and handle, but the Chartkit fits the nav station perfectly and, with the clear cover, is essential as I sail. NOAA is actively replacing many of the charts in Maine and I look forward to the next edition of my district.
I've also spent many a delightful evening in the winter reading the charts and guides, taking me back to cruises past and planning cruises future. Much easier to share than the computer screen.
