Vix Bits are self-centering Drill Guides. Vix bits let you mount hinges the easy, professional way! Drill guides are most useful when mounting hardware such as hinges, handles, drawer slides etc. Using the drill guide insures the pilot hole will be located in the center of the hardware hole. Vix Bits make a tough job almost foolproof. The beveled self-aligning tip fits nicely into the hardware and is spring loaded so that once aligned the drilling pressure compresses the spring and extends the bit into the workpiece.

Questions & Answers about Vix Bits:
2011-11-17D C asked: are these bits the real, original ones?? the cheap knock-offs aren't worth s**t the springs break and they jam up easilly...

2011-11-17DANIEL SESLAR: I find all of them need cleaning and lube; how much depending on what your drilling.
My original Vix bits from SE Vick Tool Co have a little better external finish, but these work as well. The spring has been fine. Internal drill and sleeve tolerences seem of similar quality. The barrel is stamped with the name SNAPPY.
Hex shank is a small plus for the new ones.

2011-11-17TIMOTHY CLARK: I bought my bit set in 2008 and use them on a regular basis. They are the real deal. The are marketed for door hinge predrilling but they come in handy for many other applications where centering your drill bit is critical.
Of course with the smaller diameter bits, you need to use caution and monitor your speed. I have occaisionally broken the smaller bits but that was due to my impatience with getting the project completed. Just as with using a moriting bit/chisel, it is important to keep the drilled waste clear while drilling. I usually use two plunges with each cut to assure a minimum heat build up.
2011-11-17TRACY MCLAUGHLIN: My husband has never had any problems with this product...but it's not something he uses everyday either. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!
2011-11-18JOHN HEIDEREICH: I have used the product on two boats so far and they worked as advertised. I did have a small problem when using bedding compound under the fittings. I had to stop and clean out the bits a couple of times. Not a big problem. You should like them.

2011-09-16COREY LOPER: The one I bought a while back was. Kept getting wood jammed inside.
2011-09-16SCOTT CRAGER: I do not know.
2011-11-17DANIEL SESLAR: I pull back the barrel manually and clean the grooves of the twist bit with compressed air or a small tip tool after each couple dozen holes or so or as needed. If you let it build up and get hot with friction, it bakes pretty hard and jams pretty good, especially with softwood. Also I clean the bit and spray with WD-40 before putting it away, so I have a clean lubricated start when I bring it out. Dan
Mostly for installing door hinges but the bits are useful in other ways as well. All door hardware that require a flat head screw (striker plates, latches, handle escutchions, etc.) can be piloted with these bits.
