Bronze wool is great for sanding, smoothing, and stripping metal and wood finishes. Unlike steel wool, Bronze wool will not leave behind fibers that can rust and damage wood and metal finishes in a marine environment.

Questions & Answers about Bronze Wool :
2012-10-02A shopper asked: can i use brass wppl to polish chrome without scratching ?
+Expand Answers
2012-10-02JOHN BURKSTALLER: Won't scratch. Whether it will polish depends on the cause of discoloration.
2012-10-02ALAN SCHLEMAN: not sure, as i use the bronze wool to clean stainless steel but a fine bronze wool shouldn't scratch chrome as chome is a much harder metal.
Best I know of,, for stainless steel.
2012-10-02KIM HAHN: Hi,
I used fine grade brass wool on a very old trike. It did not scratch the chrome fenders. Old trike made in America. I do not know about the chrome these days. I would try a spot that is not noticeable and give it a try.
I also used a chrome polisher on the pad.
Best of luck to you.....
2012-10-03JACK BARNES: In the past I have used bronze wool as a scuff pad on teak and other marine grade woods. Now, 3M has a superior product (scuff pads) for that application. I still keep bronze wool (medium to coarse grade) in my shop to help clean corrosion and wood sap off hedge shears and other metal tools. I saturate a small pad with a solvent similar to MEK to clean stubborn sap buildup. Bronze wool will not dull a sharp cutting edge as will steel wool. Bronze wool may help as a first step to remove corrosion or a foreign substance from a chrome surface. I would test a small inconspicuous area first and plan to finish with a soft pad and metal polish.

2011-08-04JEFF BOSWORTH: I use bronze wool for polishing my hand-made custom stringed instruments. They work well on both wood and metal. The pads bring a very nice luster to exotic woods, similar to polishing compound - but without the powdery residue. The main reason for using bronze is that any tiny fragments left behind on the instrument will never rust as steel wool would, causing rust marks on the surfaces. Bronze is also non-magnetic so it cannot foul magnetic pickups.
I would suspect they'd be useful on porcelain - provided it is used lightly so as to not scratch the surface. I think I'd try a abrasive-free cleaner first and use the pads for the stubborn stains.
2011-08-04PHILIP VILLANUEVA: i would not use it--there is still some abrasive effect that may damage the smooth ceramic surface.
Probably a sponge and tile cleaner may be the best
2011-08-04DON VREDENBURG: I would guees so, they are quality items. I use mine for spreading hot lead in my amatuer body work. efrforts.
2011-08-04CON OAMEK: I found Bronze wool worked about the same as steel wool, except that it doesn't react the same way with certain metals. I used mine on aluminum, that way I didn't have fine metal particles and future rust to worry about. Not sure about porcelain, but it may be too harsh for ceramics.
Thanks for asking.

Comments about Jamestown Distributors Bronze Wool:
I use the bronze wool to finely polish exotic woods I use in my guitar/stringed instrument making business (Luthierie). Bronze wool is a must in place of steel wool so that no steel fibers remain to eventually rust and discolor the wood or finish. Although the fine bronze wool works very well to get a quick shine on hardwoods I would like to see a very or extra fine version of it to get a really spectacular shine on wood like ebony.

I use the fine bronze wool to lightly rough up the surface between coats of varnish. It works great - doesn't rust.

Comments about Jamestown Distributors Bronze Wool:
Have been turning bowls for some time. Sandpaper does not leave a satisfactory finish for staining. Steel wool leaves a smoother finish but is messy to use; it disintegrated and fragments stick into my fingers. Bronze wool provides an exceptional finish; it does not crumble or break up. Also, if a tiny piece remains in the wood, it does not rust and create problems like steel wool. I highlt recommend the Jamestown products.
