EchoPilot Platinum FLS System

The EchoPilot Platinum Forward Looking Sonar (FLS) is a collision avoidance system that projects an accurate 2 dimensional image of the bottom under and ahead of you. A full color LCD screen projects up to 200 meters ahead and up to 100 meters down, providing ample warning to avoid hidden shoals, reefs, and other submerged objects.

These innovative sonar systems feature EchoPilot's patented Real Time forward looking sonar that does not gradually build up the picture like a phased array sonar. Instead, the FLS both scans the whole forward view and updates the screen several times a second. An obstruction ahead of the boat will show on the screen, if the boat turns to another heading with no target ahead then the FLS screen will immediately show clear water ahead.

FLS Platinum offers all the best features of the EchoPilot forward sonar line although displayed on a full color, wide screen 1/4 VGA display. The additional color feature allows you to decipher between different types of sea beds. Lighter colors indicate a soft bottom like mud or sand, while darker colors indicate a hard or rocky bottom.

The EchoPilot FLS Platinum collision avoidance system combines the most important features found on EchoPilot forward sonar models. Information is displayed on a color, wide screen 1/4 VGA LCD display that provides the best contrast and ease of reading in all conditions. A color display is able to show more detailed sea bed/ocean bottom details compared to black and white.

Transducer Installation

The included Professional transducer should be installed in sail boats alongside the keel. Shaft driven and twin screw type motor boats recommend the position between the gear box and stern gland. On a stern drive vessel, mounting the transducer just in front of the engines will provide the most accurate readings. Keep inboard of the lower spray rail if possible and not down stream of other through hull fittings. Partial heel to port or starboard is acceptable, to a maximum of 5 degrees. In the fore/aft plane the transducer must be vertical. The transducer has a special design that allows it to break off clean and flush with the hull upon impact. The remains of the transducer are still in the skin fitting and so there is no risk of water ingress.
