2012-05-06A shopper asked: If I buy two my son and I can communicate with each other?
+Expand Answers
2012-05-07ROBERT GOULD: I have not used this radio in that manner, but just as any two boats equipped with VHF radios can communicate with each other, two of the handhelds could do so assuming they are in range.
2012-05-07ROBERTA CAREY: Only if you are both on boats! And within a reasonable number of miles for transmission.
2012-05-07LUYEN CHOU: Sure - as you can with any other boater on the same channel. But remember that this is marine band, and you are not supposed to use this from shore. It's strictly for boat-to-baot communication.
2012-05-07ALBERT LUMAS: Yes.
2012-05-15CHARLES HANSON: The answer is yes. This radio has a low power setting that would be good for this application. Just remember that channel 16 is reserved for emergency transmissions. Channel 68 would be a good selection for this type communication.

2012-01-30DONALD WYLLIE: Haven't had the reason to find out. I hope it does!

2012-01-30DOUGLAS MACINTOSH: I don't know. It hasn't been overboard.
2012-01-30ALBERT LUMAS: I don't believe it will float and am not about to test its ability to float :-)
If it did float, I am sure Standard Horizon's brochure and owner's manual for it would say so.

Comments about Standard Horizon 5 Watt Submersible Handheld VHF:
I bought this unit as a backup. I have found this to be more useful and convent than my other radios. I compared the price with others that were more expensive and chose the Standard Horizon HX280S. It had all the features and more than the others.
I would recommend this to anyone looking for a backup

Comments about Standard Horizon 5 Watt Submersible Handheld VHF:
I had an ICOM handheld. The battery was old and dead. The replacement battery was more than this radio. I figured this was a good time for an upgrade in technology. I bought it for me for a Christmas present. Am now cruising the length of the Tenn-Tom waterway and using it every day.
