I work for the Navy and use this product almost daily. It is applied after we wrap external cables with electrical tape to make a watertight coating, and can be easily removed if you use it in this fashion. It is as much better product than the 3M brand because it lasts longer, and is not thinned out.

Electrical tape in a can is not as weird as it sounds. Many times there is no other way to seal wire connections from salt water spray and the like. Preventing corrosion is the best way to operate. This is good preventative medicine.
