Bronze body with monel basket design provide the ultimate corrosion resistance in Raw Water Strainers. Serviceable sea strainers protect the vital cooling system of your engine from clogging with marine debris. Solid bronze construction features NPT threaded ports.
Among the features of ARG series strainers are provisions on the strainer cap for the use of a spanner wrench to tighten or loosen the cap before or after maintenance.
Hand-tight is sufficient for a good seal for Groco strainers with threaded caps, but some boaters may prefer to snug the cover beyond hand-tight.
Cast bronze with 1/4 inch and 5/16 inch stainless steel pins. Opens to service deck plates or strainer caps with key holes up to 7 inches apart. Hangs conveniently near the strainer(s) location.
NPT (tapered) threads should be sealed with PTFE plumbing tape or equivalent.

Questions & Answers about Groco Bronze ARG Raw Water Strainers with Monel basket:
2012-08-09EVIE HOPKINS asked: Where can I find a mounting bracket for this ARG-750 raw water strainer?
+Expand Answers
2012-08-10Nathan Fournier: The strainer comes with the mounting bracket, so you can get a brand new one with the bracket's included, or if you just want the brackets you will need the "GRO-ARG-505" upper bracket and the "GRO-ARG-504" lower bracket, both of which we can get for you and they're only $6.72 each, I also highly recommend getting a new mounting strap with that which is the "GRO-ARG-502" for only $3.36, thank you.
2012-08-11Evie Hopkins: Thanks Nathan. After asking the question I found the brackets could be purchased separately.
Really appreciate your help.

2012-01-24GEORGE COURANZ: I just installed two new raw water strainers on my two perkins 4.236 diesels. I looked all over the place (Perkins shop manuals, etc) to determine how much water flow I needed without success. One of the best engine guys in town said that I could match the engine input water pipe (diameter) to the strainer input and output ports (dia). That would provide sufficient water flow even at extended RPM operation. You could go one diameter size larger on the strainers but the engine input line will cut the overall flow back to the max it can accept.
We have tested both engines. The stbd engine just got a new manifold heat exchanger and the heat exchanger was professionally cleaned. No sign of overheating at extended run. The engine that has not yet had the heat fixed still runs within limits but is noticeably hotter that the stbd engine. So when you do the strainer upgrade, get your raw water exchanger system cleaned out at the same time for max performance.

2012-01-25DON WOGAMAN: I have Groco ARG raw water strainers on both my engine and utility sea water intakes. I have learned that the monel or plastic baskets are most suitable as the stainless basket will fail within a year in salt water. I would suggest the one inch strainer for your engine intake, to assure that grass etceteras will pass through the plumbing and in to the strainer without clogging elsewhere. My Groco ARG with monel basket, one inch size, engine raw water strainer was installed in 1984 and has about 4,000 engine hours on it with no problems. I would recommend a tee on the inlet with an engine zinc, whatever size your engine uses, to protect the bronze from corrosion.
