Questions & Answers about Jabsco Pumpgard In-Line Strainers:
2013-04-20KRIS RITTENHOUSE asked: should the strainer be mounted with the clear cup and strainer above or below the hose?

2013-05-03MICHAEL GRIFFIN: Can be installed in any direction. In my case it was easier to see with clear bowl up
2013-05-03ROBERT LISS: No plastic cup should be facing straight down
2013-05-03BOB REDDEN: I mounted it down so there would be less spillage when I cleaned it, but the straining function should work in any position.
2013-05-03WILLIAM LLOYD: Doesn't really matter, IMHO, but cup on top may be easier to see, cup mounted below is dryer when removing and cleaning the filter screen.
The cup catches 90% of the water - if that matters. Mine has functioned very well with the cup mounted above the hose.
2013-05-03Hanns Gispert: common sense tells me to install the strainer with the housing pointing downward which is what we have always done and it works fine. makes it easier to clean as well.
2011-10-12JOHN P asked: I'd like to use this product in an automotive application bypassing a heater core to strain debris from a dirty coolant system on a 20 minute circulation interval ...is this strainer "water tight"? Is there an "O" ring seal on the filter bowl? Will it stand up to 200 degrees F and "DexCool" coolant? Thanks for the feedback....

2011-09-30A shopper asked: Does this unit want to be mounted with the filter portion facing UP or DOWN? As silly as it is most want the filter down but this one is designed differently.

2011-10-03BOB REDDEN: In normal operation, sediment needs to settle to the bottom to be retained. During cleaning, the clear plastic cover opening needs to be upward to prevent dumping the contents (water, sand, debris) into the bilge.
2011-10-05GEOFFREY EDMANDS: Despite marketing pictures that might show the bowl up, the strainer should be mounted so that the bowl is down, for several reasons: a) sediment drops to the bottom of the bowl, rather than interfering with flow, b) the sediment and some of the water stays in the bowl when removed for cleaning , c) the mounting tabs provide for attachment to the overhead. - gde
2011-10-06ROBERT HENRICHSEN: A provocative question. This was a replacement filter so I placed it the reverse of the picture [filter screen down] as had been done by the boat builder. I recognize that does not make it always right. I am open to a scientific approach to the design so I understand this correctly.
