To assist boaters, Star Brite has introduced Star Tron, a revolutionary fuel additive based on enzyme technology that can prevent these water-related fuel problems. water can wind up in your gas or diesel fuel as a result of condensation in the tank. Because water is heavier than fuel, it sinks to the bottom of the tank and forms a distinct water layer. The fuel pick-up tube is located at the bottom of the tank so, once this happens, water is supplied to your fuel pump. Obviously the engine can not burn water;
soon it starts to sputter and eventually stops running. Additionally, water is corrosive so it deteriorates tank walls and metals in the fuel delivery system.
The enzymes in Startron prevent the water molecules that are in fuel from combining and forming a distinct water layer. Water is reduced to sub-micron size particles that cannot cause corrosion and are safely burned during normal combustion. The enzyme package in Star Tron disperses water derived from normal condensation into microscopic clusters, and allows the water to pass through the fuel system and engine harmlessly, preventing the buildup on the tank bottom that can contribute to poor performance, fuel gelling and corrosion. This de-watering effect prevents potential phase separation. If large amounts of water are already present it will be de-emulsified and drop out of the body of the fuel, improving overall fuel performance. Over a period of time, with fresh gas loads treated with Star Tron, even large accumulations of water will be totally eliminated. Star Tron can also counter the effects of lost octane, greatly improving the combustion performance of E-10 fuel that has had water contamination.
Star Tron can also prevent filter plugging from old gum and varnish. The enzymes help break down the dislodged sludge and other deposits into sub-micron-sized particles that usually pass through the fuel filter and are burned away as part of the combustion process. Tank deposits that would cause gelling are solubilized so that fuel flows uninterrupted through the filters.

2013-02-20CHUCK HARTMAN: No they are two different products. The gasoline treatment is for slowing preventing the breakdown of ethanol in gasoline. The diesel treatment I am using to prevent the "algae" (or whatever its called) that is specific to diesel fuel
2013-02-20ARTHUR MILLER: The diesel version has one extra additive. I contacted the manufacturer and was informed that using the diesel version in gas engines WILL NOT hurt a thing. Use it as you would in a diesel tank ounces to gallons. I've used it for about 4 years now with out a problem. It's easier than having two bottles.
2013-02-21Joe kiehm: Ya know, that's a VERY good question. I have a bottle of it and in the little booklet that comes with it, it talks about Diesel and Gasoline interchangably. I would reachearch to find out if there is one for Gasoline. I have a Yanmar 1GM Diesel and it works just fabulous. I don't get that black smudge on my transom since I bought the boat and started using this product. Obviously, the previous owner did not use an additive. To b on the save side, contact Jamestown.........they'll know.
2013-03-26B. MARTHALER: I suspect not. The two fuels are different, different chemicals, for different environments.
About 12 years ago a salesman at West Marine highly recommended it. The fact that he was a retired US Navy Master Chief diesel mechanic seemed a strong endorsment.
I have been using this product in my (now) 28 year old Westerbeke 13 hp diesel and my 2004 diesel VW Golf.
With the boat, I have not seen any water in the bowl of the fuel filter and when I cleaned the 20 gal. fuel tank two years ago it was very clean. No algae and no water even though my fuel some times gets old and I never top off my tank at the end of the season (in souther WI).

2011-12-19MIKE SHEA: To All, I'm hooked on Star-Tron but only use the Diesel additive, even for gas. The dilution in gas is 1tsp / 5 gallons, a little goes a long way. I contacted the manufacturer and the stated this was OK.
2011-12-22ARTHUR MILLER: I called Startron and asked this question. Yes you can. The Diesel is a little stronger. They said to use it in gas use the amounts that are recommended for diesel. I have used it in my gas engines for about 4 years now with good results. In the long run it's cheaper to do it this way.

I use the diesel treatment in my 7.3 Powerstroke F250 and use half the recommended of the diesel treatment in my duel Suzuki 140HP cat boat, home power generator, chain saw, and weed whacker. I live in The mountains of Panama but my boat is on the coast. This is a fabulous product!

Colorado has required yearly exhaust reading. I have had over the years 2-3% particulate reading. The truck has nearly 200k and there is no perceivable exhaust during acceleration while looking in the rear view mirrors. Transfer tank has no gelatinous scum on the tank walls upon inspection. Never have had any fuel filter issues and still has the original injectors.

My 2007 Cummins Turbo Diesel had a exhaust brake that was "sticking" and at times, would not release. Dodge-Cummins Forum posting resulted in someone telling me that the exhaust brake actuator was likely full of "soot" and the only way to fix it was to replace the $1,800.00 Turbo. After the introduction of Star Tron to the fuel system, the truck has been driven 8,000 miles and not one time has the exhaust brake failed to release. This product "works" !!!

I've used both StarTron gas & diesel treatment for over 3 years in both my 2007 diesel Silverado & my 1972 big bock Chevelle to counteract the terrible side affects of ethenol in gasoline up here. StarTron does exactly what it is advertised to do. I have friends in the car hobby wondering why they are havng fuel & carb problems & having to rebuild their carbs, replace fuel pumps or cleaning out their fuel tanks & I don't. I know of 3 1967 Camaro's that have had engine fires due to ethanol related problems. I have given them my secret & let them try a sample of my StarTron & they are now all believers of it. I use it on everything I own that is internal combuston & that includes lawn equip. too. Thanks StarTron & Jamestown Dist. for a superb product.

My '84 Mercedes 300D Turbo had been stored with fuel. After running it for a while, I noticed an accumulation in the inline filter. This product was suggested by fellow Mercedes forum members so I ordered it. Rather than change the filter first, I decided to watch to see if the accumulation remained. Except for some solid particles, the filter cleared. Seems to work as suggested.
