2013-04-02JERRY HUFF: Hi Rose,
If you are tide to a floating dock, the height from dock to boat is always the same. I have a tall freeboard boat and had to add a wooden platform step to the bottom of the four step. It made it much more stable. If you plan on the tallest steps you will need, you can always step off a step early.

2013-04-02GEORGE MORRIS: They don't stack. It is very stable and serves my needs well and since it is a single step it stows well. At times I need a bigger or smaller step, but that is because of the variation in dock heights at different marinas, not the tide. It would be good if it drained from the bottom, so you did not have to manipulate it to get casual water out of it.

2012-04-16GEORGE MORRIS: Just purchased this and don't know the answer for sure. It has openings on several sides so it would fill with water. But it would not be instantaneous depending on what side hit the water first. I think you would have some seconds, maybe a minute to retrieve it. Even after it filled there might be an airpocket.
I could toss mine overboard and get a better answer for you, but maybe aonother time.
It looks to be a good rugged, compact step
2012-04-17CHRISTOPHER GRAY: I would guess that they do not float. They are hollow inside but do not have any air pockets that I can tell. Plenty of room to store things inside though.
I have the 3-step model and it's big enough to store all my cleaning stuff in there so I dont have to store it all on the boat. Keeps the boat less cluttered.

Comments about Todd Dock Steps and Handrails:
I like the steps... solid, clean, and non-slip. They come with little rubber gromits for the bottom, which is great for on the deck of the boat. The other set I got, I skipped the gromits and just mounted the step next to the boat on the dock permanently (and added a handrail...which, sadly, helped the ma-in-law board safely)
