The ease of application with its forgiving drying speed and then simple water clean up is truly phenomenal.

During the season scum-scrubs were easy and almost no color migration into the water or onto hands or pads.

The Top-Tracer coat hardly even ablated from June to November even with mid season scrubs and especially the waterline.

I was not present when hauled and pressure washed but the usual remaining dried scum under the straps was maybe less or the same as normal. The bottom truly looks ready to launch, as is, next June and that too is phenomenal. I just have to pop app 10-12 barnacles off . . . . .

Exceptionally glad I tried this product and highly recommend for our bay.

I've used Interlux Micro since 1986 and all it ever took to clean the bottom was a soft deck brush with soap and water. Tried this paint to save a buck- awful. The slime layer was so bad I had to scrape first then scrub with the most abrasive pad I could find. Nightmare. The boat is moored on the Nantucket Sound side of Cape Cod where the water can reach nearly 80 degree in the bays during high summer. Perhaps not the best warm water paint. Product is very thin and goes on easily but fearing I did not apply enough paint I doubled the number of coats, using over 2X the amount of paint compared to the Micron. Despite this, it was still a disaster. Not much fun crawling in and around the trailer of an 18 foot center console cleaning the bottom. Label says low VOC so I went without the respirator at first but quickly had a splitting headache after 10 minutes when applying it outdoors. I recommend wearing a respirator. In the end between the extra time cleaning the bottom and the extra paint, it was not worth the cost difference. Maybe you'll have better results in cooler water or in a different location.

Comments about TotalBoat JD Select Ablative Bottom Paint:

I am very impressed with the results. Of course the proof will come at haulout time. The paint looks great. A number of the other boaters at my marina came over to ask what I used. It lays down smooth and looks great.

I took the same level of care I always do (slopping it on) and the boat's bottom looks 100% better. I hope the paint protects as good as it looks. Coverage was great 1 gallon easily enough for a 30' sailboat.

Coming as a kit is nice but I would like the option to not get the extra's - tyvek, gloves, etc.

Used on the bottom of my CP 25 over previous ablative bottom paint that I washed and lightly sanded. Covered well and dried quickly. Will know better after the season about how well it works in fresh water

Comments about TotalBoat JD Select Ablative Bottom Paint:

I haven't seen how it works in the water yet but did like how well it covered the boat. One gallon covered a 30 ft sailboat boat with one coat and used less than half. We're going to get at least two coats from the gallon.
The color is a dark blue I hadn't seen before on any other bottom job, and it covered very well and looks great.
Water cleanup was very easy. Just have to see how well the anti-fouling works before knowing for sure, but so far so good.

This is the second season we've used this bottom paint. It goes on easily right over old paint. Our 65 year old wood boat actually soaks up faster with this. No solvent odor, water clean-up. The bottom was still clean at the end of the season last year. All pros, no cons. Excellent product.

I had applied Petit hydrocoat 16 years ago and it finally wore off. I simply sanded with a palm orbital sander with 120 grit and applied a coat with a 3/8 nap roller with a 3 inch brush for small areas and tipping. I applied the second coat within an hour. It's like painting with any latex paint. Hopefully it will last another 16 years. I probably will not.
