TotalBoat 5:1 Epoxy Resin

TotalBoat 5:1 Epoxy Resin is suitable for a wide range of boat building and repair projects. This versatile epoxy resin is designed for use with either of our TotalBoat Slow or Fast Hardener options but formula is also 100% compatible with all leading traditional marine 5:1 epoxy systems.

This is a clear resin that bonds with fiberglass, reinforcing fabrics, wood, and metals. When combined with any additional fillers, TotalBoat resin creates an excellent adhesive, filleting, and fairing compound.

TotalBoat 5:1 cures to a high strength, clear plastic solid with excellent moisture resistance. Once cured, it can be sanded and shaped.

Designed to easily wet-out and bond with fiberglass or other fabrics. It has excellent thin-film characteristics to easily flow out and self-level, making any laminating job easy.

Pump Instructions:

  • White pump = Resin pump
  • Black pump = Hardener pump
  • ONE full pump of resin to ONE full pump of hardener

PRIME YOUR PUMPS BEFORE MIXING: Push down and release each head of the pump several times until you get a steady stream of liquid without any air pockets.

DISPENSING: Using the white pump with epoxy resin and the black pump with epoxy hardener combine both materials in a plastic mixing pot, stir thoroughly. Remember, it is a one pump to one pump procedure. Our 5:1 pump sets are calibrated to dispense the accurate 5:1 mix ratio automatically.

NOTE: Adding more hardener does not make the epoxy set faster. It throws off the mix ratio and will not cure properly.

COLD WEATHER OPERATION: Cold temperatures make the viscosity of resin and hardeners increase and may require more force to pump thicker materials. Excessive force on either one of the plunger heads however, may also caus the pumps to break. Dispensing material in 60-70 degrees (F)is recommended for optimal pump performance.

In cooler temperatures warming the containers prior to pumping will decrease the epoxy viscosity making materials pump easier.

Tip: Wash cured epoxy with soap and water to remove any amine blush prior to overcoating or painting.

Comments about TotalBoat 5:1 Epoxy Resin:

This product works very well and the price is much better than the more famous brands.

I use the slow hardner which gives about 20 minutes of pot time. This usually is enough to complete the part that I want, but since I am building my boat alone here in Florida, it doesn't give me a lot of slack time. On one lamination the epoxy kicked before I got tkhe whole piece in place. while the loose ends looked very artistic, the loss of several pieces of spaele laminate was less fun. I now do my laminate lay-ups in two or three stages, which works fine, but takes an extra day to complete. No problem for an amateur like me, but it could be a problem for a commercial shop with a time constraint.

Product does not include pump as pictured. You need to order pumps separately.

Bought WS first, I can't tell any difference, unless your building a space rocket then the difference in specs is negligible!

Comments about TotalBoat 5:1 Epoxy Resin:

I just rebuilt a 50 year old Herreshoff Sailboat. I used TotalBoat 5:1 Epoxy exclusively on the project. I laminated wood, glass. I bonded. I faired. I made extensive fillets. The TB product rocked. I used it with the slow and the fast hardener. I also used it with the West System special clear hardener. It worked like a champ. I have no reservations recommending this product.
